If any of you are on the Trail, please do not tell your Soldiers that they will be given free leave to retrieve their families. Permissive TDY is for local house hunting. I continually see Soldiers in the hole because they are expecting free leave. Drill Seargent said "you can go to your unit and demand free leave to Pick Up your family." Wrong. I know when I was a PV4, my unit let me go without charging me. It really depends on the unit. I hate doing/seeing it, so please be up front with the Soldiers.
