I purchased another Glock last week, G26 & was wondering IF it was safe to shoot Factory +P+ loads out of both my G23 & G26(Factory Glock Barrels). Both handguns are Gen4. Thanks in advance.:dunno:

You can shoot as much +P+ as you can afford in your G-26. I'm not aware of any +P or +P+ ammo in .40S&W but if there is I'm sure you can also shoot that in your G-23

I found some for the wifes G26 & wanted to make sure the stock Glock barrels can handle it. Thanks.

I also picked up 3 boxes of this as well.https://www.mainemilitary.com/ProductCart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=3817&idcategory=266

The barrels can handle it, but not to cast aspersions on the little lady, can SHE handle it? Ammo in +P+ ranges is pretty, as they say, SNAPPY! Might it be better to think about plain 9mmHP or maybe 9mm+P and not burden her with the excessive recoil, etc, that +P+ would give? Sometimes all that power is not a positive thing when the gun gets out of control in her hand...

There are no written standards for pistol ammo designated as, '+ P +'. Technically, '+ P' ammo has about 10% more pressure than standard. '+ P +' simply means anything greater than, '+ P'.

In pistol ammunition the, '+' designation applies to only 5 cartridges: 38 Special, 38 Auto, 9 x 19MM, 45 ACP, & 45 (Long) Colt. There's no such thing as, '40 S&W + P'. I've only used ammo designated as, '+ P +' in my G-19. It was (is) Federal Premium, 124 Grain, JHP, '+ P +'. I haven't found it to be anymore, 'snappy' than any of the other quality 9MM SD ammo that I've used.

I've shot boxes and boxes of Winchester Ranger T-Series 127 gr +P+
in my G27 with a 40-9mm barrel and 9mm mags.
Also bunches of Speer GDHP 124 gr +P.
Honestly I can't tell the difference.
They both are very accurate and run flawless.

    In short - No Problemo

The only issue is that, if I am not mistaken, +P has strict SAAMI standards. +P+ is anything above those standards, with no strict limitations. I myself fail to see the need for +P+ and only use it when I have no other choice. I would, in fact, stick with standard pressure loads, or maybe the 124 +P load proven by the NYPD.

Slight correction: there is no .45 Colt +P.

    Federal's 115JHP+P+ is the only load I use in my G19 & G26.

Is the 9mm +P Federal HST 124 grain a good carry round?

I occasionally shoot +p+ 115gr 9mm in my G17 - no problems so far. 1400 FPS out of my chronograph.

I think it is and I currently carry that ammo in my 9mm pistol, and that's with having almost a dozen premium JHP self-defense rounds to choose from.

  20. +P is a designation for modern post war pressures.
    S&W.40 for a G23 is a 1990's cartridge-
    already +P.
