What operating systems out there allow windows programs to be run?

I asked because I am thinking of changing to something non-MS, but the vast majority of software that I use is developed for Windows. I also have to be able to share Word, Excel, and pdf documents with others ad nauseam. I am just not happy with XP and my computers in general. I think the last time I had a really good stable operating system was in 1996 when I used OS/2.

you might want to check out linux; particularly Fedora Core.

You will want open office to be compatible with MS office.

You may also need Wine to run windows programs.
