Check these beauties out! Took the drift boat out and floated the North Umpqua on Presidents day and landed eight of these babies. These fish are packed with power and an absolute to catch on light line (8#).

Very nice! About the only thing I miss from living in Kirkland, WA venturing into the Cascades for winter steelhead fishing.

This will kill you steelhead purists. I was in the SE Alaska native village of Kake on business. Just outside of town a small stream flows into the ocean, and the trail crosses it on a small wooden bridge. We watched one afternoon as one local kid on the bridge used a .22 to head shoot migrating steelies and his buddy downstream caught them in a dip net. Then off home for fresh fish.

Nice fish! I've been getting the boat ready waiting for the weather to break here. A few more weeks smallies and largemouths look out! I can't wait.

    Native kids? Surely illegal?
