I orginally posted in GNG but I guess it would be more appropriate here I picked up a dd M4 V5 300 blkout. If anyone is in the market westernsport.com has them for a black friday sale at $1249 you will have to hurry as supplies are limited.

just getting back into black rifles, this model has the fixed sights but what is the best bang for the buck as far as optics go? aimpoint? eotech? the trijicons seem to be quite a bit higher in price.

Awesome rifle, I'm jealous. Have you noted the cost of 300BlkOut ammo?

    Just so you are aware.

IMO best bang for buck right now is probably the Aimpoint PRO. I personally and a Aimpoint Micro fan and have a T1.
I would consider your preference for the type of reticle and intended use for the rifle. Put that ahead in your criteria for decision making. For example, I have ambitions on getting a 300 BLK upper myself and intend to use it as a hunting rifle so my choice would be a 1-5/6 scope. If I knew that I would just use it as a Range/SD gun, opt for a RD of some sort.

yep I have, every now and then I see it for fairly cheap. I sold my old bushy so I will be picking up a 5.56 brl or a 5.56 upper in the future I'm sure. So that I can keep costs down when just plinking.

You'll love it. I've got two V3's and they are awesome trouble free rifles.

I'm somewhat nervous about availablity of 300 blkout. If I need it, how much trouble is a barrel swap? would it be worth it to just buy a complete upper in 5.56 to swap out when ever I want to shoot 5.56/.223?

An even cheaper and easier alternative is a .22 conversion. I'd buy another upper rather than a barrel swap everytime. I'd really look into canceling the 300 and get a 5.56. If you don't reload 300blk is an expensive proposition.

unless you are shooting 100s of rounds a month, I don't believe the cost is that big of a difference. I usually pay about $3 more per box of 20. I use the blackout for hunting and less at the range, so ammo cost is not an issue for me.

if this is the general belief we should all just own 9mm and 5.56 - but people like variety

Many folks shoot hundreds of rounds a week.....some a day.

Over time, the cost difference between the two adds up quickly.

Stick to 5.56MM and 9MM? Sure!!! Sounds awesome!!
