    Hi,

This is my first post. I've been reading threads on this forum for a couple of months. It's been very helpful. I picked up up a G26 this week. I'm retired LEO, but haven't shot in over three years. I carried a G19 for years on duty and a K frame .38 S&W (hated that revolver) before that. Since retirement, I've been busy with new baby, new house etc. so I didn't even bother getting my Full Carry until recently. I feel great that I finally have though. My dept still uses 115gr +P+ JHP (Federal, I think), but I wanted to try a heavier bullet with a little less velocity/recoil. I won't be going to the range until Saturday, but my dealer/friend recommended this ammo for Personal Def. It's what NYPD and the French Civil Guard use, if that means anything.

What are your opinions on the recoil, accuracy and defensive attributes to this round?

    Thanks

PS Prior to retiring, I was carrying a NAA .32 Guardian off-duty. What the hell was I thinking:dunno:.

    Hi ajgranda,
I just got my current Glock 19 Saturday, and bough a couple boxes of 124gr. +p to use as carry ammo. I have heard a lot of good things and know a lot of agencies use it. Check out Police Marsken's video, looks like it will get the job done to me. I plan on doing some reliability testing and see how it fares in different media.

Its what I carry in all my 9mms. Great ammo with great expansion results in testing. Feel confident carrying it in your G26.

It is great ammo but you stated you might like a little less recoil. Try the 147gr flavor of gold dot or ranger. Good performance with very little recoil. The standard pressure gold dot 124 is just about as good IMO as the +p.

Same here. I have other quality 9mm stashes but I really love the 100% functionality of the GDHP. Love it out of my G26.

It's on the list. You are GTG.

You should be OK in terms of service calibers, as long as you stick to the better hollow point designs: Ranger T (not SXT), Gold Dot, and Federal Tactical Bonded and HST (NOT hyrdra shocks).

They haven't tested bonded golden sabers or winchester pdx1, but I've got to say, those look alright as well. Don't take my word for it, though. Stick with that list.

Gold Dots are what I carry in my G19. I have seen some dramatic expansion results also with Federal HST, and recently some information about a new Hornady Defense round. The claim that Hornady makes is that it will expand normally even after penetrating thick clothing or glass.

You should be ok with any of these rounds, but, the bottom line is still bullet placement!

Great round. FINALLY, the NYPD listened to their "gun guys" and went with this round. Good Luck in retirement! Enjoy the family and CARRY EVERY DAY!! When you were on the job,who were you with? Westchester? A state LEO job?

It's funny to find that my first post came up now. Man, have I been posting a lot in the last month :wow:. I have to agree that it's a great round. For me, its the most accurate of all the SD rounds I've shot. I stopped carrying my old Depts Federal Classic Hi-Shocks 115g +p+ for these.

The 124 +P Speer gold dot is what I carry in my G 26. The Federal 115 +P+ is an excellent round as well. I would bring BOTH to the range and see how each one performs out of your 26. My G26 is beyond accurate with the Speers..and I mean as good as my custom 1911's...My G19 is not as accurate with that round and I use Federal 124+P HST's in my G19. I compared Ranger 127+P+, Ranger 124 +P bonded, Federal HST's, Corbon DPX 115 +P's, Thunder Ranch Corbon 115 +P's, Speer Gold Dots 124+P's and the G26 LOVES the Speer Gold dots and the G19 likes the HST's. I am getting a case of the Federal 115+P+'s to try as well... Believe it or not groupings ranged from 1" with the Speers to over 4-5" with some of the others

Speer's 124 +P Gold Dot is an outstanding round, and has been my primary carry round for over three years.

First off,......I'd like to thank you for your years of Service! :patriot:

Secondly,...... Gold Dots are MY preferred carry ammo. Winchester
    Ranger T series is second.

Speer GD are all I use in .40, 9 and .357 SIG...very reliable round in all versions...arguably the best SD/carry/duty round out there.

Great round, well proven on the street.

the NYPD has killed many felons with this round out of their G19s.

I load my back up mag with these for some extra oomph and for a bonded round.

I don't own a 9mm but I have heard nothing but good things about the load in question. All of the Gold Dot ammo is good stuff! I think the only load that comes to mind in 9mm that can top it is the Winchester Ranger SXT 127 Grain +P+. You can't and won't go wrong with the Gold Dot ammo!
