Hey Glock armorers. What is the purpose of the "spring loaded bearing"? My thought is that it is a convenient way to lengthen the spring so as to apply enough pressure for the extractor to extract. Am I close?

After about 30 minutes crawling on the floor looking for this thing, I decided that I didn't even know why it was part of the gun.

Is it absolutely necessary to use a "spring loaded bearing"? Or can any piece of something be put on the end of the spring to give it that last bit of length so it works?

I am pretty sure that I am not the only guy that has launched a "spring loaded bearing" into orbit. Or am I just the only guy that is willing to admit to it!?
