Amount of shots doesn't matter. Placement, placement, placement...

  4. Six months earlier Wild Bill Hickok was shot in the back of the head in nearby Saloon #10 in Deadwood. He didn't fare so well.

"Even if the heart is instantly destroyed, there is sufficient oxygen in the brain to support full and complete voluntary action for 10-15 seconds.”

    Interesting tidbit.

Aim for the knees at least that way they can't walk or stand.

On a more serious note. Great article, extreme cases but one never knows what or who they might encounter.

  8. Sometimes you just have to keep shooting people until you can convince them to die.

Some people drop for almost no reason.

But from reading most of those cases sound like they were shootings with fmj or rnl projectiles which are well known as poor stoppers.

posted from my stupid smart phone, please excuse any spelling mistakes.

When I started out...back when rainbows were still black & white...the old cops used to tell me that "every dead man has ten seconds". Gotta be prepared for that.

I often wonder why people fail to connect deer hunting and war reports to self-defense with a handgun? If a deer can run dozens of yards with a ruined heart and a soldier or Marine can fight on with machine-gun wounds, then why would we expect a handgun to stop an attacker without a hit to the CNS? It must be the powerful effect of television.

If you want the other side of the story.....FNAR with `150 gr Remington Core-Lokt 20 yds. 150# pig broad side. shot mid line chest cavity. I don't think the pig even had time to blink. DRT.

Full metal jackets and the hoped for tumble don't equal an expanding hunting bullet.

    it is like magic.

Proves guns aren't dangerous! Show it to the anti's. Dalton was shot 23 times and dies 45 years later of natural causes! Should use his corpse to model ballistic jello.

One shot to the head of wild bill, and A. Lincoln, .... all it took.

Placement was key. Yes, I do support and like and carry large caliber guns. But the point is clear. You can fill a guy with 44 mags in the WRONG place, and so what.

The right place will get him dead... Has always seemed simple to me.

The only way to make sure they are DRT is to take out the front running gear. I've had many deer run with their heart and lungs turned to jelly. Take out both front shoulders and they all fall right there.

  17. The 1986 FBI Miami shootout destroyed any fantasies I had about stopping power. Some people are just hard to kill.

The failure to stop stories reinforce carrying a:
    13 + 1 or 9 + 1 capacity (Glock 23/27) 40 S&W
    instead of a
    7 or 8 + 1 (1911) or 6 + 1 (Glock 36) capacity 45 acp.

Well placed shots may fail to stop
Could have more than one determined attacker
Missing or not so well placed shots are possibilities
