While hunting on Tuesday morning, a doe came in close to where I was sitting. I shot her at 23 yards with my G20 and a 6 inch factory barrel. I put one round (Hornady XTP 180 grain) through the neck. She took a half of a step and fell to the ground. This was my first deer kill with a 10mm handgun and I was very impressed. I look forward to hunting with it in the future!

You are hooked now! I haven't even taken my rifle out this year.

    Congrats!

This is a very cool thread. I got my first two deer with my glock 20. The first was a doe it was a 70yd shot she stuck her head and neck out of the woods. I took aim at her neck and squeezed the trigger she went about 20yds. Second deer was a decent sized 6 point buck. He came out at about 40yds I took him right behind the shoulder and he went about 75yds. Both one shot kills. I am very impressed with the 10mm. I'm shooting 180gr hornaday xtps out of a stock length barrel sorry no pics but I will take some of the next ones I get.

I'm sure there will be ... I'm seeing as many or more NEW 10mm shooters as last year and years past, as well as us guys who have been here for many years....

Can't wait for deer season, myself! Gonna try to snag one with the bow, the SBH .44 AND the 10mm longslide. Maybe even the G29

20sf will be hand this year. Always been a bow hunter but figure I will bring the 20 when gun season opens this year for gun season. Fired up about it!

My main suggestion for handgun hunting is to carry ONLY your hunting handgun. No extra rifle, no extra anything. If you have a rifle with you and its in your hand, you'll probably take the shot with it even though it might be close enough for a handgun shot.

If you bring ONLY your short gun, you are FORCED to step up your game and TRUELY handgun hunt.

Ok guys, time to join the party. Been lurking for years, posted a few times, never in this thread.

I will be traveling to North Carolina for Thanksgiving and will have a few chances to hunt with my 20sf. I have dawson precision adjustable sights. Need some suggestions on ammo. I have a few to choose from. 180 and 200 xtp from underwood. 180 and 200 gr xtp factory from hornady. 200gr WFNGC from doubletap. I'm well aware there advertised velocities are high. I still believe it's plenty. What do the experts think?

Nick, sorry if this is not a thread for questions. I can delete it if need be.

You're right, its not really a place to ask questions however I'm sure you can find what you need by searching the 10-Ring forum and 10mm Reloading forum for the information as we've all been over this question many times.

I, for one, think the shot placement is more important than the particular bullet or load used, but with the big ten, you really owe it to the animal to use the hottest and most effective load available for your application. To ME, this means wide-nosed, heavy hardcast or a tough, heavy JHP (like the XTP).

Good luck and post back here when you use your 10mm to supply the venison!!!

Just thought I'd post up a little gratuitous hunting piece photo. This year I'll be splitting my hunting time between my 10mm and new .44

Good advice, but the fear is that the once in a lifetime trophy will lock up at 150 yards or so and unless you're a highly skilled pistolero you might as well have your **** in your hand as a pistol. I usually carry my relatively light 30-30 Marlin and try not to think about it. I also try to restrict my pistol hunting sites to those I would normally bow hunt or black powder hunt.
