It was in Laingsburg, specifically east of the city of Laingsburg and closer to the unincorporated area of Pittsburg.

On a related note, the Laingsburg area has not been hit hard with "blue tongue" disease this year. But I dropped the deer at the processor (one county over, in northern Clinton County) and they said virtually everybody there had reported finding dead deer.

Well boys, I got my first deer (with a handgun) a couple days ago. I flew home to KY to spend my B-Day with Dad and do some hunting. Initially, I was going to use one of Dad's rifles to hunt, but then the light came on.... TAKE my 20SF!!!

So I packed/boxed my Glock 20SF in my checked luggage on Southwest and was determined to get a corn fed white tail with it.

A KY tag allows 1 buck and 1 doe, or 2 does. KY also has a 10 round mag limit, but no bbl length requirements. I didn't have time to scrounge a G20 10rnd mag before I left, so i had to improvise.

I cut a piece of wood out of an old broomstick and sanded to fit in the bottom of the mag and into the mag spring. A few more cuts, and my standard 15 round mag now held 10.

Our first day of hunting was monday 11/12, (my b-day). We got into the stand around 3:30pm. I took a model 94 30/30 with me just in case I saw something nice out of pistol range. I set my limit to 25yds or less with my Glock. At about 5pm an eight point buck snuck up on me, and would not come closer than 30 yards, so I ended up shooting him with the 30/30.

We hunted tuesday on a different farm and didn't have a shot within 25 yards. Dad however, shot a healthy 11 pointer.

On Wednesday, I hunted the same farm that I shot the buck on. Except this time I didn't take the rifle, Only the 20SF. At about 8am, I see a doe walking the game trail that passes behind my stand. She walked behind my stand and stopped at 25yds ish. I squeezed, and let go a 200 grain BTB WFNGC behind 8.8 grains of Longshot. She ran about 75 yards and dropped!

I ended up hitting her in the rump :(. She was quartering away when I shot. The bulled entered her rump and ended up in her abdomen. There was quite a bit of blood in the gut area when I was dressing her. Must have hit an artery running to her legs??

Anyway... My 20SF and hand-loads did the job!!

    Cold side of conus
The only story I have so far is that I passed up on a doe 2 days ago (on the opener here in MI) hoping a bigger one would come by, but so far that has not been the case.

    Hoping tomorrow A/M pans out.

I'm going to nail one, it just hasn't happened yet this year.

Hopefully I will be able to find the 135 grain bullet after it delivers its full 866 foot pounds of whoop arse on the target from moving along at 1700 fps!

GREAT JOB, AstraPat!! (Although I recommend a boiler room shot next time, ;)) Glad you got yourself some meat and did it with your 10mm... and HARDCAST, no less! I like it!

8.8gr of LS under a 200gr WFNGC is a sweet load, I know from experience. Well chosen.

Get out there and get another!

I forgot there was a sticky! Here is my hunt.

So last night I had a decent 8 point at 15yds but decided to pass. About 20 minutes later a monster 12 point ran through my thicket at about 60yds. I just couldn't get him to stop for a shot.

Anyway, I really wanted some meat so I decided to take a doe if I saw a mature one. I had a few young does come by really close but I couldn't be for sure they weren't button bucks mixed in. Then this big girl strolled through. I shot her at 40yds and she fell dead within 25yds. As part of our management program we have to weigh them. She was 152lbs which is big for Arkansas

I was using my stock Glock 20 with Truglo TFO sights. The bullet was Underwood 200gr XTP and it did a great job. The bullet entered mid cavity and broke through her ribs and exited by her neck. There was no recovery of the bullet but the exit was a sizeable hole. I will definitely be using these bullets from here on out. And for what its worth these were more accurate at 60-80yds than the Buffalo Bore.

Thanks nick. I hear ya on a better shot placement. I was shaking with excitement and pulled the shot.

Yeh, I'm getting right around 1200fps with that load. Are you seeing the same?

Nice shooting, esp for a vital hit at 40 yards!

    Actually I'm seeing 1250+ with 8.3gr LS from my 6" Fusion.... 8.8gr gets me over 1300fps. :)

Be careful with some of the factory 10 mm loads because they are watered down to .40 S&W performance. Stick to Underwood or Buffalo Boar.

Ohio gun season starts Monday. I'll be in a tree stand with my G20SF with Lone Wolf 5.15" barrel and 200 grain Underwood XTP's. I'm going to limit myself to 30 yards or closer broadside shots just like I'm bow hunting.

Good luck! I let a pretty nice 10 point get past me yesterday. He was 20yds behind my stand by the time I saw him he was in a thicket and even though in shooting range I had no ethical shot.

Around 9 AM I called a doe out of a thicket. She danced around for a few minutes then returned from whence she came.
Then this guy appeared. Shot through, behind the shoulders, his lungs were pulverized.
A good blood trail led a short way back into the thicket.
After I shot him a spike showed up. I shooed that little guy away.
My calling must have been convincing.
    7 pointer (4X3), 16 inches wide.
Shot was at 65 yards with my hand load in a S&W 1006.
It is 155 grain XTP over Power Pistol powder, chronographed at 1450 fps.

Daaaaaaaaaang, I missed a big 9 point this afternoon. I completely choked! I had just gotten to my stand and I heard him coming. It was the middle of the day and I wasn't expecting to see anything.

He came behind me at 30yds and was moving fast. I whistled to stop him and rushed the shot. I can't believe I choked so bad. I hit a the side if a small tree. Oh well, that's pistol hunting.

Just for that you should punish yourself with 50 kneeling shots at 30y on a shoot n see target with your hunting load. :p
