There have been quite a few movies I've enjoyed on DVD, but
none so much as something bought as an afterthought in the
bargain bin, which then turns out to be a surprising gem.
Anyone else run into these sort of rather obscure wonders?

    Heartlands (2002)
Michael Sheen, Mark Addy, Sandra Robbins, Jim Carter
    Dir. Damien O'Donnell

*Colin is a sweet but not very bright man living in a small town
who is stunned to learn that his wife Sandra has been sleeping
with the captain of his darts team. Learning that the two are
headed to a big dart competition away in Blackpool, Colin hops
on his underpowered mo-ped and pursues her.*

    Paranaque City
Blast from the Past (1999)....he he.

Brendan Fraser (Adam), Alicia Silverstone (Eve), Christopher Walken and Sissy Spacek
A family lived under the ground for fear of nuclear war. After 30 years, naive Adam goes out to check the world, do some shopping (using priceless old baseball cards) and hopefully find a girl. Nice dance sequences on Benny Goodman's "Sing, sing, sing".
Good entertainment from the $2 bin.

    --------

Did anybody else see "Scaramouche" (Sabatini), on MGM the other night?
Enjoyed those long fencing scenes like I did decades ago.

    Let It Ride (1989)

Richard Dreyfuss, David Johansen, Teri Garr
Richard Dreyfuss as Trotter, a cab driver who gets a hot tip on a horse race and soon finds himself on the gambling hot streak of his life.

    Sweet Talker (1991)

Bryan Brown, Karen Allen, Justin Rosniak
an amiable, charming ex-convict (Bryan Brown) arrives in a small Australian costal city with the intent of duping the populace into investing money in a phony excavation of a sunken ship, which is allegedly filled with gold. Unexpectedly, he falls in love with a young widow (Karen Allen) and becomes a father-figure to her young son. His new romance complicates his planned scam, and he can't decide whether to carry his plan through or stay with the woman.

    Ordinary Decent Criminal

Michael Lynch (Kevin Spacey) is a happy-go-lucky thief and head of a gang who takes delight in plotting and executing heists with the kind of élan that makes him a popular and charismatic figure in the very Dublin that he plunders. The story is loosely based on the life of Irish freedom fighter Martin Cahill, also chronicled in the 1998 film The General. Co-stars Linda Fiorentino.

    The Usual Suspects

When five unacquainted scalawags are hauled into a police station to appear in a criminal lineup, they decide to pull off a heist together. The plan gets complicated, however, when they intermix with an underworld kingpin named Keyser Söze. Gabriel Byrne, Benicio Del Toro, Kevin Pollak, Stephen Baldwin and Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey star in this intricately plotted, critically acclaimed thriller that won another Oscar for Best Screenplay.

    Area 51
Shaun of the Dead. Deadpan British humor (or humour) meets American zombie horror.

Grindhouse (Death Proof): Quentin Tarantino all the way. The final car chase sequence is a classic.

Kung Pao: Seventies Chinese kung fu movie is spliced with modern scenes. Stupid and funny.

    Simon Pegg is my hero.

That scene between Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper was pure gold.
("eggplant", lol...) Gary Oldman was insane, and I almost didn't recognize
Brad Pitt in yet another scene.

"All My Life" Aga Muhlach and Kristine Hermosa
"Til I Met You" Regine and Binoy
    "Tianaks!" Mark and jennelyn
    "White Lady" Angelica Panganiban

Excellent cinematography in all these films. I hear the cinematographer is also a good shooter. Gwapo pa.
