  1. Cops Shoot Motorist Who Hit Officer With Car in The Bronx, NYPD Says Updated January 2, 2013 7:57am

Police shot the driver of a 1994 Honda who struck another officer with his vehicle before speeding off on January 1, 2013.
Cops shot a motorist who struck a police officer with a car trying to conduct a traffic stop on Tremont Avenue, the NYPD said Wednesday.

Two officers assigned to the Bronx Gang Unit pulled the Honda over near Grand Avenue Tuesday about 5 p.m., but as they walked toward the vehicle, the 31-year-old man rammed it into one of them and sped off, police said.

The officer who was hit sustained a minor leg injury, police said.

The other cop, who wasn't hit, fired a single shot that struck the fleeing driver's leg, police said.

The suspect drove about 5 miles to Van Nest and Matthews avenues, where he slammed into a parked car, cops said.

Both the driver and injured officer were taken to Jacobi Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, cops said.

Charges against the man were pending, police said
