    Hey Mas:

I carry .40 180 grain HST's whenever I can, and I carry Speer .38+P short bbl load the rest of the time. I know that both rounds have great street records. HST's in Columbus and San Diego, and Speer in LA and NY. If I had to shoot in a SD situation, how many rounds of each load would be required? In other words, would I most likely have to hit the criminal with one more .38 round compared to the .40? Any data on number of COM hits required with each round to stop the threat? If nothing else, just let me know which round would probably get the job done with less rounds fired. My common sense tells me that the .40 would be more effective. I am not trying to be funny, but I am not sure that my common sense is correct. I really just am not sure.

    Thankis,

    Rob in Gilbert, AZ:dunno:

Ya never know how many shots you'll need 'til it happens, Rob; location of the wound is always going to trump the type of ammo used, but as a rule, .40 S&W is more powerful than .38 Special.

    best,
    Mas
