Has anyone here ever owned or fired the diplomat? I was contemplating building one for my first ever SBR. Just wondering if it's a waste of time or not. I have a 14.5'' middy BCM custom build, but the thought of an AR that tiny is awesome.

If not, I'm building a 308 Leonidas Clone. :wow:

Neither would be my first choice for an SBR, I'd much prefer 5.56 in 11.5/12.5" flavor, or full length for .308. Noveske is top quality though.

I had a Diplomat for a month then decided I didnt want to wait for a stamp and sold it. It was beautiful though.

I've got a 7.5" Kitty Kat pistol and it's a hoot to shoot. It wouldn't be my choice for a first SBR though. While fun and cool, I think the 7.5" barrel does sacrifice a little too much velocity for "concealability." (If that can be applied to a rifle, maybe maneuverability would be a better term.) If I were in your shoes I'd heed NeverMore's advice and go just a little longer. Personally I'd go for a Navy CQBR clone. I forget what the official designation is off the top of my head. Still well into SBR territory while drastically upping the utility over a 7.5.

    I had a diplomat, I traded for the 10.5.

It was a fun gun, but I just wanted a little bit more velocity. Loved the Pig, till I took it to a shoot house, then I promptly got rid of the upper afterwards. Like getting hit in the face with a rock.

dead on... not a fun gun to shoot where you will be shooting it at if need be. getting hit in the face with a rock is a good description

Probably need a suppressor if you are going that short.

Good info! That's why I like GT. I just bought a vortex for my 14.5'' middy I just built. Just gonna keep it at that for now. Pin and weld, play and decide what my first SBR will be.

The Noveske Leonidas...it's 12.5 and the pig is 3.28...that's 15.8 roughly. I think I'll do a 13.7 and a pig to get it legal. Just going to be a fun gun.

How long is the BABC? It might get the 12.5 Leo to 16".

BABC is a little over 2'' long. No way that'll get Leo to 16'' Maybe I can just do a 12.5 with a battlecomp and SBR? I'm still debating on the Diplomat, but I know I want to build a Leo

Haha! I love telling people that when they ask a length on something. "Eh that's about 12 inches...at least that's what my wife says" After pulling out a sub compact pistol.

    But on topic:
Fella I talked to bought a DPMS AP4 and cut it down, added a rail, and a butt stock. Said it cains muppets all day long. Human sized targets at 200 -300. Another fella said his @ 12.5 will hit accurately out to 700. Of course this is all he said she said, but it is going to be a CQB rifle of doom!...of course I could buy Beowulf, but ammo cost is blah. I get 308 on the low.

Plans are to either build or buy the rifle. It will be 10.25 - 10.5'' upper with a BABC, CTR or Emod, Irons, Eotech.

I know you guys think it'd be dumb for my first SBR, but I like the idea, more so than I like the diplomat with the weaksauce 5.56 out of a 7.5

A good shooter, with a good SBR should be able to do 200-300, and headshots to 100-125m.

700? I don't really believe that. But from the bench, I'm certain the bullet would go that far.

DANGIT! I want to build this SBR so bad! I can get kitty kat barrels at work for pretty cheap this means I could make a diplomatish clone for about 400 bucks. I'd have to completely build my 308 or buy a 308 and convert.

    Anyone wanna trade? :D
