This used to be one of the most active sub forums on the site, and because of some truly bad laws passed by politicians, gun owners now have to jump through hoops just to own firearms.

I actually talked to some guys who were almost to the point of just selling off all of their guns expect for a home defense shotgun or pistol. I'm not sure but I think I want to follow suit :dunno:

    Agreed. :steamed:

I completely understand their frustration, and the way
this subforum has lost its former vibrancy.

The BoG was very active, well .... up until the current
President came into office. Activity started to wane in
late 2010, and was in free-fall by mid 2012, IIRC.

Tough to talk 'guns' when the government wants to take
them away from Filipinos... well, except of course for: all
those "rich kids" (like our supposedly gun-loving President)
who can afford the skyrocketing cost of ownership; and
Muslims down South who somehow get to keep unlicensed
guns, unmolested by police, citing pseudo-religious basis.

    :whistling:

    It cant be papa Pnoy
Di kaya si Mar ? hehe gusto pasikat sa DILG
Higpitan ang legit gunowners and sprotsmen hoping( desperately ) to bring down crime stats
Baka kasi mga riding in tandem perps expired na ang mga gun licenses

    Fafa Allegra...
Threads here show that oppressive policies (suspenions
of carry and transport permits, the practical banning of
high powered rifles as you mention) were in motion as of
mid-2010... Jesse Robredo was still DILG head then.

No doubt PNP wants the new rules, but it's not as if the
President hasn't the ability to redirect the PNP. ex-Pres.
GMA certainly did, although her anti-gunowner directions
were a mostly-for-show exercise, to please the visiting
Philip Alpers and his liberal Europatrons.

I fear PNP (FEO) is driven by lucre and busywork where
    firearm-licensing is concerned:

    1. raising costs of gun-ownership directly increases their
revenue, and banning types of firearms allows potentially
    lucrative sale of special-exemptions-allowed-under-IRR.

    2. PNP already know that when you outlaw guns, only
    outlaws will have guns
    , but squeezing the law-abiding
gun-owners HARD is the easiest way to look busy. Why
don't they disarm Muslims down south? Or criminals?
    We law-abiders are easier pickings.

PNoy intervened only once, albeit via bully pulpit only:
    http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1463436

In hindsight and at worst, ^that seems like mostly Pilatine
handwashing: an empty public show to mollify gun-owners,
since PNP (FEO's) oppressive new policies kept rolling on.

At best, ^that reveals the threshold of what PNoy would
object to, which in turn means he doesn't object to the
rest of the PNP's added restrictions, since he objected to
    them not.

my solution, moved to mindanao, PTTs PTCs not needed here. regular club shoot matches, 3 gun matches all continue as long as you're a citizen of good standing you're welcome. everybody says, well, we asked for the permits, crame won't give, so well screw that let's shoot.

the community is small enough that everybody knows everybody, so we basically police our ranks. also we all personally know the chief of police and key AFP personnel, so well, there.

it's the trend world over, high population density places will have super tight (and enforced) gun laws. move to redneck areas and it's not as regulated.

its not local, the systematic disarming of the civilians is part of UN anti small arms proliferation thrust.

as long as theres are humans this and all other kinds of power plays will exist.

i avoid all of it by moving to locales where laws are less relevant to daily life. we are not savages though, much peaceful here than manila, here all that is needed is basic golden rule and pretty much we are free to do as we please.

When you quit in the face of the opposition's words, you will lose everything eventually.

Continue to fight for your self protection and self preservation. Don't just give in when times are tough. You can still win.

  14. I don't feel like I've had to jump through many hoops here in Georgia. The sheriff verified that I'm not a criminal, issued a permit and I carry almost everywhere I go, even some places I'm not suppose to. After all it is called Concealed Carry.

People in some other states have a legitimate gripe and we all need to work on changing that.

    :)

I don't think gun-owners here in the Philippines are
thinking about giving up firearms totally, but money
is tight all around: I'll keep enough, in order to keep
myself and my loved ones safe.

Once the pendulum swings the other way, I'll buy:

Until 1992 the rules were FAR more oppressive than
in the present, and I can hope that the libertarian
period of 1992-2008 will be repeated, and that each
cycle represents a net movement forward to the law
    fully respecting a firearm-owners' rights.

A few years ago, I think Allegra said GT-BoG wasn't
so much a discussion forum for firearms, but rather
for miscellaneous lifestyle topics (or something like
    that).

If GT-BoG is to survive these dark years, it may have
to be more about topics other than guns.
