non-NFA 14" mossberg?

Discussion in 'GATE NFA/Class III' started by M1A Shooter, Jan 8, 2012.

i really wanted to get your take on this and see if its bull or not. id like to build a 14" birdshead mossberg and if its a non NFA device as stated in this website, id be all over it. i kind of see this as a too good to be true idea.

My take on it is that it's either an AOW (smoothbore pistol) or DD (caliber over .50" non-sporting shotgun). I would not recommend proceeding unless there is an ATF letter that very specifically says the specific device in question is legal.

Read the letters from the ATF NFA Technology Branch. They of course only apply to Len Savage, but do demonstrate the ATF's perspective. These have been made for years without a problem. Go for it.

Isn't overall length the same principle that allow those lever action rifles with a cutoff buttstock?
