No Guns Richmond City Parks

Discussion in 'Glockers of the Old Dominion' started by evilgeologist, Sep 22, 2007.

  1. I was down in a Richmond City park and saw the sign "No Guns." I have a CHP and like to keep my G36 on me at all times. I was sure that cities couldn't ban CHP holders from bringing a concealed handgun on city property. What gives?

  2. The benevolent leaders of Richmond have decided that for your own protection they will violate state law.

The signs have no force of law.

Take a picture of them and send them to the VCDL.

Let me know which park and a picture would be handy. That sign is toast.

    That's all the sign said?

    A photo would be good.

Would be happy to take a pic if I knew which park. Every park I have been there are no longer any no guns signs but I am on the lookout. Patrick

Yes - we should all keep our eyes peeled for such illegal infringements. They can show up at any time. Some Bozo decides it's a good idea to put up such a sign without checking the legality of it.

  8. Yeah I run across one now and then in Fairfax that still has the old wording.

Most of them have a pooper scooper requirement pop riveted over the no guns part now. Occasionally someone has pried that off.

  9. Sorry haven't been on in a while. The sign is located at the 42nd street entrance off of Riverside I believe. I saw it at the top right when you down the stone steps before crossing the bridge over the railroad tracks. The "no guns" part is at the bottom of a brown sign that states the other rules... no alcohol, closed at sunset etc...
I wrote an email to the city parks people and haven't had a reply... what a bunch of spineless idiots

I called and talked to the Parks people. They were wondering if perhaps you meant 22nd St, but they are checking both locations for that sign. I told them to call me if they can't find it.

  11. Damn it was 22nd street. I also wonder why the parks people wouldn't return my email questioning the sign.

Richmond Parks called back to say the sign at 22nd St. was fixed. Nothing found, of course, at 42nd St. They said to let them know if any more such signs are found and they will be fixed post haste.

Very pleasant experience, I must say.

  13. Thanks guys... my membership check will be in the mail shortly.

As some of you may know I have been fighting with the city parks dept to get them to either paint or remove a sign at the 22nd entrance to belle isle. The sign is illegal. Since 87 the general Assembly is the only body that can pass gun control in the commonwealth of VA. The City of Richmond however feels that it can leave this sign up. I have been working on this since last summer. But Most recently for the past month. I know money is tight with the " new economic realities" but a pair of bolt cutters and a little bit of paint, or a screwdriver would fix the problem. But after a month they have not.
    Why???

Here is some of the emails between myself and the parks dept.

    Thanks much Patrick.
Ralph will address the rusty kiosk issue as soon
as he can get to that...will require sawing off locks and buying new
    ones etc.

If you notice that was a month ago and as of yesterday Sat the 28th it was still there.. Look at the picture.

What can you do to help??? Well Email Miss MItchum. Mary.Lois.Mitchum@richmondgov.com Call her at 804-646-0199. She is on vacation this week but you could also call the # for immediate help. Call Ralph White ( who is the real problem) at 804-646-8911. On the message you can find the Mr White's cell.

Please forward this to anyone who might help.. If they got 10 calls or 30 calls and emails that would make them change their mind.. This is our government breaking the law... Are you gonna stand for it??

    Thanks for your time...

Ralph White is at it again. There is a sign in the parking lot on the northside of the river for belle isle. Any calls at all would help.
