I am with Verizon and we now know that they are doing away with the unlimited data plans and if you want to stay with the unlimited data when renewal time comes around and you want a new phone you will have to purchase that phone at full price.

I like Verizon, but they are the most expensive provider out there.

Clark Howard says in this article the no contract providers are getting higher ratings than the Big 4. Sprint leads the pack of the Big 4......

Naturally. Any company that has to win your business month after month will take a much keener interest in your satisfaction than one that knows they've got you for 2 years.

I really like my Straight Talk two phones. Initial setup and porting was difficult because of the overseas call center but not a single problem since over the past two years or so.

I appreciate the info. I have a family plan with 5 phones and with Verizon implementing the new "upgrade" fee I am looking elsewhere.

I have ATT and also a Boost mobile for the 40 a month unlimited. The ATT has been with me for years and I am out of contract but I do agree that the no contract companies are better but if you don't pay by due date they will cut you off right away. I was talking to a guy one a no contract phone minute plane and then boom..he was gone. Had to refill and call me back. Good article.

,..but only on the Verizon network. No free roaming (like Verizon gives it's contract customers).

This isn't correct, I just upgraded my Dinc to a Rezound and made sure they kept my unlimited data. The girl helping me was super cool, she had to call Verizon CS, but it wasn't an issue. Said she did it all the time.

I currently have ATT and I'm under contract until Dec, we are counting the days for that contract to expire! For a while now we get very poor customer service and several over charges on our bill, I think it's because we have managed to keep ourselves locked in over lapping contracts on 4 phones for the last 10 years are so......They know they got us so why bother giving us good service!

I was looking at Verizon as a replacement and the big draw for us was the unlimited data, if that's gone I'm not sure what we will do at the end of the year.

    +1. Renewals are still grandfathered.

This rumor again? Howard said the same thing last summer and it was determined innacute then.

We are with Verizon and we get a significant discount (same for US Cellular and AT&T) thru my hunband's employer but we have never had any issues with our service. Well, outside the wait for iPhones.

Wife, daughter and I are all on the Net10 system.

Cut our phone costs by 2/3.

We have had Net10 for years now and are happy with them.

I have four smart phones on Sprint, with unlimited data, free cell to cell (any network), free roaming, 1500 minutes to land lines and unlimited texting. Cost is $57.50 per phone, including all taxes and fees.

It certainly helps that the no contract service costs less than 1/4 of what the Big 4 would charge me. Phone selection and signal aren't fantastic, but for $25/mo vs $100+ it's a no brainer.

Tracfone is perfect for our use. Couldn't be happier with the price and service.

My wife and I have been using PagePlus for the last year and a half. No problems.

PagePlus is no contract and runs on Verizon network. Most Verizon phones (except iphone) will work on PagePlus.

As of June 28 no more grandfathering if upgrading devices:

"But after June 28, customers who take a subsidy when upgrading to a new phone must forfeit their unlimited plan and switch to a new capped one. "

Apparently only until June 28th, after which they will go 'poof' when you renew or upgrade, unless you pay full price for the phone.

At least that's what I just read in an article on CNET. :dunno:
