This might SEEM like a big deal but before we get all giddy, thinking that newspapers are "seeing the light" and dropping their left leaning habits....lets examine where the printed paper is in today's world.

I don't care if it is the NY Times or some tiny paper in Arkansas....printed newspapers everywhere are hurting. Their readerships are down everywhere and many are trying like mad to maintain their way of life and legitimacy.

They also see (...even though many will probably not admit it) readership has gone down and subscriptions are down because many conservative leaning buyers are tired of their leftist slant and can and do find their news elsewhere.

Therefore...to try to gain back some of the people they have lost (...and hang on to their livelihood) many are endorsing the GOP candidate.

In the end, it is a small gamble. They know that the leftists that subscribe and read will probably not bail on them and they stand a chance of gaining some conservative readers back.

Well...I say don't fall for it.

This does NOT mean...with any sort of hard proof...that these major and minor papers are "turning conservative" or anything. They are trying to stay alive and will try anything and many don't want to be on the side of the loser or lose even more conservative readers than they already have.

Follow the money...it usually tells the tale!

Some research shows that newspaper endorsements make their biggest mark when a newspaper, whose editorial board leans one direction, endorses a candidate from the other side. These endorsements really could help Romney.

In response to Brickboy, yes, newspaper readership is down, but it has nothing to do with conservatives fleeing. Most right leaning newspapers are hurting just as much as all newspapers.

Which is too bad. While newspapers always slanted to the left or right, they at least were accountable for their facts. Now, truthers and birthers and other conspiracy theorists can find an unaccountable website like the Word Nut Daily that will feed them all the nonsense they want.

Rather than getting the news and forming opinions, more and more of us are forming opinions, and then going online and believing only websites that will validate their pre-held beliefs. Very scary.

With that said, the right leaning Wall Street Journal is doing just fine :)

All 2000 people getting these papers, if they read them, might be tilted to one side or the other, if they were in the 6% of undecided voters. Only 2% of undecided voters care what newspapers say.

Money or not, this is pretty amazing. The left is on the ropes any way you look at it.
