hey all new to the boards and to glock. i live in Pennsylvania i am looking for a good woods gun to carry on the ATV. and the G29 caught my eye. my question is i found a used one that looks new. i would bet there was not even a hundred rounds thru the gun. i can get it for $425.00. is there anyway to tell how old the gun is or what gen it is? is there a certian generation to stay away from on the G29`s.

  2. Here's a pic of different generations. The Gen 4's were just released so no picture. I have gen 3 G29SF and G20SF

i went up tonight to check it out again and looking at it closer i could not say no. i would be suprised if there was 100 rounds thru this gun.ended up getting it for 390 plus tax and backround total out the door was 420. i would post a pic of it but we all know what a G29 looks like. and it is a gen 3. only downside is no box , paperwork or second mag. but what do ya expect for 390.00.

Is it possible to have a Gen3 29 without the rails, or is it only the Gen 2.5 that comes with finger grooves, and no rail. OP congrats on the 29 the best option in my opinion!

I've had my G29 since Sept of '97 & have never regretted it. It's been my carry/work gun since then, working in several gunshops.
Get a GOOD holster & be happy ! (personal choice is Galco Concealable )

I believe that all of the models with finger grooves but no rail are considered gen 2.5

Looking up the serial I found it's actually a Gen3 with a born on date of March/April 2001. It had finger grooves got rid of them and no rail.

This is correct, Gen 3's have the light rail

Everywhere I look up the serial for my non-railed 29 shows that it's a gen3. I would be happy with it being a 2.5 and according to the images would have been a 2.5. However looking up the serial it shows Gen3? How is this possible.

I am not sure on the exact answer to your question, but in my first armorers course it was made clear that finger grooves and no rail was Gen 2.5, like many of the first G29/G30 models.

I would say the mother ship can give you the best answer over a thread on the internet with serial numbers, or anything I have to say.

All I can think of off the top of my head is there might have been frames left with no rail still being put out at the beginning of when the railed models were, which seems like a good possibility.

When in doubt, call Glock :super grin:

Not that the generation of the gun makes a difference in how it shoots or anything, but it is nice to know the answer 100% concrete.

Me too, every place I look up the serial shows it as a gen3, but it had grooves and no rail. Lol my little weirdo! Wouldn't have it any other way.
