Folding knives with blades less than 4 inches are legal in NY City.

Most of us used the four finger rule.

    Have a good stay.

  3. Thanks for the info, But I spoke law officers from NJ and NY. And it really is a gray area, IT seems to be up to each officer in where and why do you need to carry a Knife. I think its crap that, I or anyone that should be put in that position, and about the size of blade also seems alittle gray area.......They say 4 inches or under and some say rule is no more that 4 fingers...But 4 fingers is 3"inches, I guess I use a 3 inch blade to be safe....JB

    boarhunter,

Unfortunately, you have discovered one of the great truths of self defense... there is what the written law says and then there is what the law enforcement officer on scene decides.

This is what gives us the phrase, "you may beat the rap, but you won't beat the ride."
