I have been hunting for 20 years. So most of gun experience is with long guns and a .22LR wheelgun. This is my first Semi-auto and just wanted to see what the expert Glockers thought of my setup.

    I Picked up a G21 .45acp.
I added the Protec 190 tac light.
I use the Serpa CQC and a Blackhawk IWB for CC.
I just purchased Meprolight night sights, Glockmeister grip plug.

Im shooting the WWB JHP and FMJ's.
Want to try some other ammo. Any suggestions?

Anybody have any suggestions on ammo for the G21?
What would the difference be between the 180 and 220 or whatever grains?

First of all, are you talking range ammo or SD?

Between 185 and 230 there is felt recoil and I believe the 230 has less felt recoil and you can be more accurate. YMMV.

Easy way to experiment is the get the 230 Federal Bulk Pack at Wal-mart vs the Winchester 185.

I use Freedom Munitions Reman 230 for practice. Burns clean, cycles fine goes bang every time.

For carry, I am using Winchester 230 JHP
I was thinking about Hornady or Speer Gold Dot for carry.

Right now at the range im using Winchester 230 FMJ.

Gold Dots have a excellent record and are hard to beat, try a box and see how they function and are POA/ POI and how they group out of your gun. SJ 40

I think I will stick with the Winchester 230 FMJ for practice. They group pretty good and a decent price for .45 practice rounds.

As far as carry, I will get a box of Speers and try them. I shoot pretty good groups with no trigger pulling or flinching with the Win. 230 JHP but want to see if I can get some better groups for my carry ammo. Would like to have the tightest shooting round my particular gun for carry. Thanks all!

In my experience I ALWAYS shoot tighter groups with my carry ammo. Hope you have the same results.

Welcome to our world! Experiment around with various rounds/loads. That's an enjoyable part of the firearm-owning road. Caution: You may find yourself wanting another - or several more Glocks. "Five Glocks And Counting" Cheers.

Congrats on your G21 and, welcome to GT!

I would recommend trying out some Hornady TAP as well.

Gold Dot/Ranger/HSTs are all great choices. Here's some chrono data from my G21:

    Chrono data:
    -Federal HST 230gr JHPs: 817fps, 341 ft/lbs
    -Winchester Ranger 230gr JHPs: 896fps, 410 ft/lbs

I recommend you shoot most of your rounds with that light on---my guess is it'll fail but it may not---only one way to find out. But, better to have it fail on the range than when you need it most.

I love having an excuse to go shoot!
Alot of great info guy's, Thanks everybody.
I will try my light on while shooting. Thanks for the tip.
Night sights and grip plug should be here thursday.

I think that is about all im going to do to it as far as add-ons or anything. Just wanted night sights, a light and a grip plug to keep dirt from getting up in there.

Thank you all again!! I really like this forum!

I like the Ranger and before that I liked the Federal HST because thats what they gave us and told us that we would like it. Both worked fine for me. I couldn't tell a difference between them accuracy wise (my guess is that either and the gun are way better than me.) From what I have been told the absolute best ammunition for accuracy sometimes varies from one gun of the same model to another.
