lotsa folks act snobbish when it comes to 1911s, but the facts are that many "outsiders" can build a quality 1911 for a lot less than many "insiders" and that hurts many-a-ego.

will it shoot 1/4" groups at 25 yards/meters? no. will it shoot "combat accurate" at that distance? yes.

The only foreign 1911 I really have an issue with is Taurus. I'm not big on Para either, but they're better than Taurus.

That said, I'm not sure any are actually better than American built 1911s.

Two types of handguns we can build very well in this country are 1911s and revolvers. After that, the rest of the world has us beat, IMO.

I think this will depend on how well trained the workers are who assemble them. I bet the parts come to Turkey to be assembled and finished there. I'll wait to see one and/or read good reports on the forums from people I respect before I buy one.

I've owned two Norinco 1911's in my life so far and both were 100% reliable with anything you threw at it.

Does anyone remember the article in a gunrag sometime back (American Rifleman?) on the factory in Turkey making the new Armalite 9mm handguns? They had great photos and said the plant was state of the art with all new Japanese CNC eqpmt. Hell, even Colt didn't have that until of recent. :whistling:

Norincos are a better 1911 for the money than any platform under Colt IMHO. No MIM, good steel, HC'ed barrel. Only bad part is that their steel is tougher than their mills. Mine looks like it was machined with a spork on the inside.

I wonder if they'll bring over the whole platform and we can get some 9mms and some commander models like the Canadians.

Wasn't there an executive order by Bush in 2003 banning all Norinco products (firearms or not)? Thought it was due to human rights abuses.

That'd be great. I would love a Norinco in 9mm.

I'd also like one in .45 as just a good solid 1911 to add to the collection.

Looking forward to hear about people's experience with these "new" Norincos.

    I have 2 Norinco Compact 1911s, and not Canadian:supergrin:

My regular gunshop I shopped at in New Mexico had scored a deal through his distributer. He had ordered a few early. In fact he just beat Clinton's ban on Chinese firearms by just a few weeks. And since the order was placed before the ban, they were still allowed in the U.S. I bought one right away for $368. He had 2 in his shop. 6 months later, he still had the other one there. I mentioned I was surprized that the other one was still there. He said he has already raised the price to $468 and he did have someone in earlier that was interested in it, but left to figure out if he had the money for it. So I told him I'd take it. One I have done some nice upgrades, the other, still is brand new, never shot.

I found the IAC Regent 1911 at a shop in Scottsdale, AZ (US Autoweapons) that has it for $448. So, I broke down and ordered one. I figured, what the heck. Once I receive it, it may still be a few weeks before I can go shoot it. I just had back surgery a week ago and I will not be able to do a few things for a few more weeks. I will be able to give an asthetic view of the 1911 though.

I hope Norinco could do the same thing with the semi-auto AK-47's.

    I know, it's a long shot.

Hope your back heals well and yes, give use a range report when you can. Do the parts appear to be fitted well?
