After lurking here & checking things out for - oh - almost 2 years now, I figured I might as well sign up just in case I've learned enough about something to contribute. I've learned a lot here - and get a kick out of the "regulars" who make this forum unique. Thanks!

Started with my .223 / .357 - moved quickly to .40 & .9mm... Then, I got bit by the precision rifle bug and worked out some awesome .308's. With all of that, I ended up saving so much money that I couldn't help but move on to .30-.30 & .45 Colt. Then recently, I found one of those obscure calibers that it only makes sense to reload for - .480 Ruger - and jumped (am jumping?) into casting. I've most recently smelted 100lbs of lead and have cast (in 3 sessions) for the .357, .45 and .480.

Anyway, I'll be around... probably still won't have a lot to say, but it IS a new year / new leaf.

Step up, strap in, it's always a wild ride around here.
  3. These guys are a pretty good bunch... just keep in mind that Jack will steal your lead, Fred will take your brass, and Steve (C4W) will be measuring everything.

Howdy from TX. Jack wants to know if you're a flatlander. :dunno:

    Welcome. Never believe Jack.

Sounds like you're jumping an inch deep and a mile wide like I did. Don't be afraid of focusing on one cartridge for a while and then moving on.

dont ever title a thread "what is the best...." and you'll be fine. im sure you have noticed that if you've been lurking for 2 years though lol.

oh yea, and dont tell anyone about your 42 inch bravia either.

You're just like me.....I just peeked in for almost 18 months before jumping in on this forum after learning tons of stuff. Now I load on a 550B for various rifle and pistols. I don't know to thank this forum or not after a lot of funds spent on this hobby, two closets full of reloading stuff, and a wife who just can't understand the enthusiasm for spending hours on end.

This is my favorite forum on GT and I've learned a great deal about re-loading since last September, because of all the great people here.

I jumped in right away and asked a ton of questions and every question was answered and I thank everyone who has helped me.

Oh, and welcome to the board!

    Welcome to the forum.
Rule number 1. Do not talk about Tight Group or brag about how well it works for you! :steamed:
Rule number 2. Laugh at Jacks joke (even if they are not funny)
Rule number 3. Don't mix Viagra and reloading (see Jack’s video):whistling:
Rule number 4. Forget all the above rules and have fun!

Funny you mention that... I'm not quite sure how he'd qualify me (but I'm guessing he'll chime in after this).

When I was born, we lived in Turkey Creek Canyon (probably 2 ridges over from Jack); then Idaho Springs... Moved to the highest hill next to the flat lands (North Table Mountain in Golden)... so I get where Jack is coming from. But - I've pretty much lived out in the AZ or NV desert ever since.

Good point. That's what I needed to do when I was working on .308 - spent almost all of my time there, and only loaded good, known loads for the other calibers during that period. It's also kind of where I'm at with casting - getting the process down, and then I'm focusing on making that .480 Ruger sing.

See that, we've finally attracted someone who was at one time a non-flatlander... although for some inexplicable reason he went over to the dark side of the Devil's spawn and not only became a flatlander but chose Sin City as his place of domicile. Further proof that the apocalypse lies just across the horizon.

I know Turkey Creek Canyon well, drive through it every time I drive down and visit the land of wussies and tofu eaters. my most recent foray being 1:30 this morning as I returned to God's country after a night of two-stepping and allowing the ladies to gaze upon me and formulate their intimate fantasies.

Welcome to the forum Ricklaut... although technically a flatlander you're still head and shoulders above the rest of these slugs, you'll do well around here.

One piece of advice... don't blow yourself up. :wavey:

Jack was a lurker too for the longest time, then the judge granted a restraining order.
