I just bought a new gen 4 model 21 and have not made it to the range yet but will this weekend. I have 1911 45's but never a Glock until now. I have the 26 and 19 and love both.

For target shooting in 1911 45's, I use 200 grain lead wadcutters, but i know you cant use lead in glock barrels. I may consider an aftermarket barrel to shoot lead at some point, but which barrel is best? I would want a drop in fit with no gunsmithing. Or am i better off to just stick with FMJ bullets for practice and stay with the factory barrel?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Congrats on the new G21!

I load 230 gr. FMJ/TMJ, along with 185 gr. XTP for .45. I also load 10mm, and ordered a KKM stock-length barrel for my G20SF, and have used it ever since. The brass looks great, due primarily to the excellent chamber support, and also because I don't load nuclear loads!

I'll be picking up a KKM for the G21 at some point so that I can shoot some of this LSWC that's been sitting at the bench forever. Works well with the 1911s, though

Congrats. And wait and see how soft it shoots. It's like shooting a marshmallow.

Nice! I got one about 2 months ago. I have 350 trouble free rounds so far.

you guys have any issue with where the brass is ejects? ie. is it erratic? or hitting you in the face. I'm debating between a glock 17 and a glock 21 gen4. Going to go with one or the other, just not sure yet.

Just curious, did yours come with the dot connector?

I've had issues with both those models, but only because I didn't have enough of a charge in the cases when I loaded them. Gen4 Glocks seem to prefer mid- to max loads per the latest load manuals I'm using--Speer 14th, Hornady 8th, and Lyman 49th, especially with the slower-burning powders. I've even experienced some where the gun fired, but the slide didn't eject the brass!

No problems whatsoever with factory ammo. The G21 Gen4 is my favorite Gen4 model, and is probably my overall favorite Glock. G17 is a great Glock, too. Just don't shoot the G34 first

Congrats on the 4th Gen 21!

You asked for advice, so here's mine. Shoot your favorite load using 200 grain lead, 10 rounds at a time. Take out the barrel and give a look see, if there is any leading. 10 shots, check barrel, 10 again, check again, so on, and so on. Take a brush with you, and run it through the barrel, and drop, the grit from the barrel, on a piece of paper, and see if any leading is occurring. I've had three G21's, and all of them, could run 100 rounds of lead with no leading! Hope you find the same to be true! Oh, also had 2, 17, 2, 34's, and a G30, that showed no signs of leading either!

I have put a little over 1000 rounds thru two Gen4 G21s and the only problem I had was a couple of failures to feed using Winchester USA45JHP where the crown(?) of the hollow point got hung up on the top of the chamber. No problems at all using Federal, Winchester, Blazer or Remington 230 FMJ or Remington Golden Saber HPJ.

    It's pretty nice
Congrats on the G4 21! I have one also and it's been flawless. Speer makes a standard pressure 200 gr. truncated TMJ in the Lawman line. I picked up a few cases for $300 each about six months ago. It's my favorite target load. They also make the same bullet in +P which @ 1050 isn't a bad woods load for .45ACP. Enjoy your 21.

It's not recommended to shoot lead out of any Glock as you may know. However, I've shot hundreds of my own reloads consisting of Oregon Trails Laser Cast 200gr LSCWs out of my G21 with no problem whatsoever. These bullets are extremely hardcast and the only fouling is because of the bullet lube. I load these to an overall length of 1.245" and crimp with my Lee FCD using 1/2 turn of crimp only. Works well in the Glock and runs like water through any 1911 I've ever shot them out of. I really dont recommend you shoot the lead through your Glock without a KKM or whatever normally rifled barrel, but in low quantities I've not had any problems out of my G21 with the factory barrel.

I may take the cautious advice to see how lead semi wad cutters will behave in the factory glock barrel.

I have my wadcutters loaded very mild with bullseye-- if they will cyle the action, they may be fine through very frequent cleaning. They are definitely not hot enough to cause drastic leading, at least i would not think so.
