I just recently purchased a new Dell Inspiron 8600
laptop. I called Dell about the batteries..AKA
do you need to break them in?. They are L Ion
batteries. The tech said that you need to run
the batteries down for a month of use, and keep
recharging them when they are low. He said that
that would increase the lifespan of of the
batteries. So my Q is this, was I given a crock
of BS or do I need to break the batteries in?

Well you can use it as is. He wasn't giving you a load of crock.

My suggestion is to buy a replacement battery.

I have seen latop batteries last as long as 4 years without doing that hocus pocus stuff they recommend.

The Laptop should have come with instructions telling you how to properly charge and discharge your batteries.
