Bought one earlier this week and finally got some range time in today. Fired a total of 30 rounds to include Gold Dot 135 gr. +P and Hornady 110 gr. Critical Defense rounds. Fired all rounds from 7 yards and all hit the 9 inch paper plates I was using for targets. Recoil was light and the Hornady recoil was lighter in my opinion than the Gold Dot. Didn't use the laser, but checked later and the laser still appeared zeroed.

I love my Bodyguard J Frame (No lock model) and IMO it's the best snubby out there. I liked it so much that I bought another but sold it to a friend to give to his wife for a mothers day gift. I will be looking to buy the .357 all steel version of this gun in the very near future.

Congrats. One of those is on my wish list, but not in the budget.

I don't care for the cylinder release on the new Bodyguard.

Can anyone compare and contrast it to/with the 442?

I have a 638 and a 642. Like em both but the 642 is better for pocket carry.

Just to allay confusion, the model 638 is the OLD model Bodyguard "humpback" (shrouded hammer, still can be cocked) snubby .38 j-frame. The NEW "Bodyguard" is polymer frame, five shot .38 revolver, DAO, with built-in laser and a new type of cylinder release. Totally different gun.

There's also, a new "Bodyguard" semi-auto .380 in the mix. The new polymer .38 and .380 "Bodyguards" are being advertised together. Don't know why S&W called the new ones by the same name as the venerable and still great old model, but who is to second-guess marketing madness?
