hey guys. i realize that every gun manuf. has a 1911 platform, but i was wondering if you could help me narrow it down a little. it will be my first 1911 and i dont want to spend over 1k on it. i know that most of them can be very costly and i know that they are probably worth it, but for my first one, id like to not make such a high investment.

i guess what im asking is:
whats the most bang for my buck? any help would be appreciated.

    SA Range officer
    ruger
    remington
    Colt
    RIA/Citadel

I got a RIA and I really like it lots of bang for your buck in the 500 dollar range. Here a pic of mine [IMG]

    Some others to look at
    STI Spartan
    Magnum Research
    Springfield
    Ruger
    Smith and Wesson

all make sub 1000 dollar 1911's I hear good things about all of them.

$1000 will get you a nice 1911, the hype about them being so darn expensive is over done IMO. See the list above and add the Kimber TLE II to it. :)

    I'd go with a G21SF. That's Glock's 1911. It's dead reliable, holds 13+1 rounds, accurate, and only about $500. :whistling:

I'm sorry, I couldn't help it. Seriously, it's an awesome gun, though. Unfortunately, I have no good advice for you. I accidentally stumbled in here to see what was recommended as I will buy a .45ACP 1911 some day, and I don't want to spend too much, either.

My first 1911 (and probably my next gun) will be a Colt Delta Elite, but that's a 10mm, so I doubt that helps you.

I like the (NM) Springfield Loaded models ~ $825 locally.

Their Range Officer is good too ~ $750 locally.

Don't buy a 1911. It's an old design, and too heavy to carry. Invest in a Glock.

Don't be bringing that Glock trash up in here :tongueout:

I love the ideal of the G21 but my small girlish hands are not big enough for even the SF version :(

Go 1911 and you will never go back

Not really, just do what I do and carry it loaded with only 3 rounds to cut down weight, who needs capacity anyways :wavey:

Ruggles are you testing the new cali clips . I heard they where pushing for reduced capability. Still better then the single shot ny clips.

I am going with a SA Mil-Spec, it has enough to be functional out of the box but leaves room for customizing down the line, saves you a little over some of the other suggestions as well, I am getting mine for a little over $600

What is a "cali clip?" Or for that matter, what is a "ny clip?"
