I've started playing with Linux and thanks to all who helped get this up and running on an old Compaq. Everything and everybody tells me to use "Network Manager" to this up and running on a wired Comcast broadband internet connection. I'm feeling really stupid, nothing new, but I can't find network manager on the screen. I need help, as usual.

Top panel, there should be an icon, mine is an ethernet jack icon. Left or right click for different options. Network manager should have been installed by default, I think. You can check in synaptic, just put network manager in the search.
