Hey all, I do a lot of hiking, and usually have on a large backpack. I carry my AR15 with me most of the time, and like to shoot it quite a bit out in the middle of nowhere where I hike (Bob Marshall wilderness). These are often up to 9 mile hikes, and I do not mind carrying the gun with me.

What I want is a 2 mag pouch of some sort that secures the mags decently (no completely open top) that I can hang on my belt.

    Any recommendations?

I would go with ITW FastMag, Gen 3 pouches. You can get the belt mount ones and configure them side by side or staggered stacked.
They have great retention, fast accesss... I have them on my training war belt rig but molles.

Either one of these would be my suggestion, or hit the local Army/Navy surplus store and find an old ALICE triple magazine pouch for about $5.

You say you wear a pack, or you can mount to your belt as well...
    Go to supplycaptain.com
They have tons of options there for ya, belt mounted, molle, mount them to your pack, endless options, colors.

Tactical Tailor does well, as does HSGI and others.

If it's simply 'carrying them with you" the six-mag bandolier from www.unclesamsretailoutlet.com will do fine for cheap.

I was able to find this one for only $4 at my local Army Navy Surplus. I think I'll give it a try to see how I like it. It is in really good shape, the dark spots are water that's not dry yet from washing it.

Excellent! Cheap, simple, looks reasonably solid.

Edit: Now we just need to work on your choice of ammo... :whistling:

    :wow:

Were they reloads or factory ammo?

What TAP load do you have?

Then you are in good shape. The 8126N loads are good ****, especially for SBRs. When you're backpacking, though, you might wanna consider some deeper-penetrating loads. I believe many of the Barnes TSX loads are known for better penetration in wild animals, and still give plenty of expansion (they expand, not frag).
