Where would you guys suggest I shop for a 500 gig 2.5 inch platter esata normal laptop height drive? These things are new an pretty hard to find.

I want to replace the 160 gig drive in my Apple laptop.

Sure that it's eSATA, as in external? For Apple laptops, any 2.5" SATA drive that's 9.5mm tall or less should work just fine. The Samsung Spinpoint M6 isn't a bad drive for what you're looking for.

The drive I linked to whould be exactly what you're looking for. They also have a 500GB drive from Seagate avaiilable there as well. Off the top of my head I don't know if the Seagate was 9.5mm, though.

I've done business with them (Other World Computing) and have been very pleased with their service. Their sales staff was very helpful and attentive.

I replaced the 80gig SATA drive in my Acer laptop, w/ a 250gig I bought on Ebay, for $59. Its was a sealed, refurbed Seagate, and I'm quite happy with it. Just from past experience, I'd stick w/ Seagate or WD.

Last night I installed this Western Digital 500gb drive in my 13.3" Macbook. I used SuperDuper to ghost the drive and then I turned the 250gb drive that came in it from the factory into an external drive using this MacAlly enclosure.

My only complaint with the new drive is that it spins at 5400 RPM instead of the 7200 RPM I wanted, but there's nothing that fits the 9.5mm maximum height requirement in a 2.5" SATA drive I'd have to have.

Good suggestions, but I like this 2.5 enclosure better...
