    Nice SBH. ;)

The only 3-screw Ruger I have left is an older 4 5/8" .357/9mm Convertible. I miss the older BH's that slipped away over the years.

I bought a 7 1/2" SBH just after they released the New Model. Excellent finish. Yes, the square trigger guard was less friendly to my middle finger than the standard rounded design, and I was an avid handloader who shot a LOT of "Keith" loads. ;)

I eventually had to have Ruger re-machine the spot for the cylinder pin screw stop, due to it jumping out under recoil (and allowing the transfer bar to jam up against the firing pin, from underneath), but it was an easy modification for them and the problem was resolved. (This wasn't an unknown issue with the early New Model, as I recall.)

Some years later I picked up a 4 5/8" blued BH .44 Magnum, which I thought was a handy model run, and which I actually liked better than the SBH (if only because of the grip and trigger guard). If it would have had the same high polished blued finish of my SBH, I'd probably have kept it, but it went away for a trade (for something I can't remember after all these years).

I also always preferred shooting heavy medium & big bore loads out of a BH or SBH than my DA revolvers, too.

I have a 4 5/8" New Model Convertible BH in .45 Colt/.45 ACP, but I've always kind of hoped I'd stumble across another Old Model BH Convertible .45 Colt/.45ACP 4 5/8". :) Ditto another .41 Magnum. I don't miss the .30 Carbine, so much.

    Congrats again. :)

I just picked up the twin to that one last week. Only difference is the grips have been changed out. It does not have the transfer bar safety. I have another that is well worn that does not have the safety either. I think one of them has a serial number close to yours. I will go check. BRB.

Nope. Both 80 prefix but one is 38xxx the other 18xxx. Have a friend who has a flat top her dad gave her before his death. In great shape. 5 digit ser. # I am trying to buy it. My Uncle gave my cousin a 4 digit .44 Blackhawk that he bought when they first came out. It's been hunted with a lot, but still in great shape.

Very nice Bac. Also, thanks for the info on finishes. I'm going to start looking for one now. That is exactly what I want.

One of yours would be from 1970 and the other from 1971.

The 4 digit Blackhawk in 44 would be from 1957 or 1958.

Thanks Bac. The newer one looks nearly as nice as yours. I suspect it has only has a cylinder or 2 shot through it. My dad has one the same vintage that has shot only 3 rounds. I had my hands on it a few weeks ago. Looks brand new still. I'll check the number on it.

Beautiful gun and I agree...the old Ruger actions are way cooler and more solid than the new /transfer bar models. I inherited this piece and a few others from my FIL 4 years ago...

I even have the box and the gun barely has a turn line on the cylinder. I have never shot it...probably never will. I doubt my Father in Law shot it much. Awesome gun. It was insisted by the Family that I bring it home and here it lives now. Wish I could bring myself to sell it but I'll leave that to a niece or nephew when I'm gone I guess.

Thanks Jeff. Its an old thread that got another spin. ;)

Yes, Ruger did a nice job with the bluing on the old SBH.
