any ideas as to why?
plinking noises? That is ummmmm what exactly? Could be a fan, bad HD or cdrom, any number of things
back up all of your data, email, etc. that you want to keep onto a CD, thumb drive, or somewhere else.
it could be a wire caught in a case fan, it could be the hard drive in its last moments. hard to tell from here.
Could very well be the hard drive's head slamming into track zero to recalibrate due to something failing. Does the hard drive light come on with the sound?
Agreed backup the data now!
a) It's a laptop
b) It's coming out of the speakers
c) the plinking sounds like water plinking.
d) it's a Gateway with factory OS (WinXP MC)
Is it in screen saver mode when this happens? IF not run for a new Spyware/Malware/Addware and antiviral scanner ASAP.
Go to www.Superantispyware.com get the Pro version it is free for a month.
What virus/spyware is there that would cause his problem?
