I have a coworker who is receiving Morse on his Latitude D830. Well, it sounds like Morse - about two seconds of dots and dashes, very loud, randomly throughout the day. I just heard it a few minutes ago. He has an iPhone, which may possibly be the source.

I swapped his hard drive into another laptop to eliminate any possibility of audio hardware malfunction, as well as running a full diagnostic, which passed.

Anyone ever hear of such a thing?

Does he do VOIP from that laptop? Some ham operators now transmit over VOIP because it eliminates the weak link of FM repeaters.

Dunno how you go from that to it being audible but it might explain why someone's sending CW to that PC.

When you find the problem I would be real curious to hear what it was.

my parent's new computer does this too. It is cellular phone feedback, for us anyway. We have about 2 seconds of morse style feedback whenever a phone in about a 24 inch range of the speaker and data come in.

My D830 will also pick up my cell transmitting -- it sounds more like static though.

In these parts, AT&T phones are more likely to do the "morse code" emmission. If it's a wireless Microsoft keyboard or mouse you can count on resetting the link most of the time too!

Question - How do you DOUBLE your support calls?
Answer - Introduce WIRELESS into your environment in ANY way shape or form!!!

Thanks. My coworker says he has only noticed this in the last couple of weeks, and only in his office. Our building is across the street from a cell tower. I wonder if they have changed something on the tower and he's in a critical path of a signal. No one else in the building has seen this problem.

I'd estimate the sound at about 35-40dB. It is a little above normal conversation levels, but annoying none the less.
