I've heard rhi all my life and was thinking way back in the day it was probably true but in current years probably isn't.

Is there any recent data to say otherwise?

Considering it is by far the most prolific round, I would think that it's still valid.

I have been to a number of dead or critical shootings with rim fire over the years. 38 and 9mm are also popular as well as shot guns. I do not remember of ever personally seeing a .32 or a .25.

Shotgun blast to the face and the person is still alive can be pretty unnerving even for seasoned emergency workers.

I only worked one murder this year. Drug dealer took a .22 to the heart on a drug deal gone bad. Was alive when I got there and died less than 10 mins later.

I remember thinking he lived a long time considering where he was shot. I knew based on the entry wound where he was hit.

Didn't know it was a .22 until after the autopsy.

A second one here to want the data. Certainly there are a lot of .22 rounds out there. Just curious I guess to know the facts.

I would have though that it would be the 9mm. Considering that it is the round that NATO troops use, and the U.S. military (most of it), the U.N. , etc.

I've seen a lot of gunshots to the head survive but never a 22. It goes in and bounces around. The small entrance quickly plugs with clotted blood and the pressure builds in the brain followed by death. Had a case where a dealer got shot through the head with a 357 and walked out of the hospital several months later. He wasn't walking well and never would but he survived. Don't think he is still dealing can't count. Seen several attempted suicide with 9mm, 38 and 40 cal where they put the gun to the temple and fired. The bullet cuts both optic nerves exits the skull and they survive (blind).

I think much of this "information" comes from the fact that .22's are so prolific.

Consider the countless MILLIONS of .22 rifles and pistols tat have been produced over the years.

Have you ever spoken to a person about firearms only to hear, "guns..I hate guns...I would never tolerate a gun....wait except for that old .22 up in the attic that used to be my late husbands".

Consider that now days companies are reluctant to divulge the number of firearms that they are producing, but....It has been estimated that Ruger has produced several MILLION 10/22 rifles. Marlin model 60's also estimated in the MILLIONS. Add in Winchester, Remington and numerous manufactures and you can only come to one conclusion....

Ther is one heck of alot of .22's out there.

I was a kid in the late 40's and everyone, it seemed, had .22's. Just very few pistols for recreational shooting
