Miniature Railroad

Discussion in 'The Lighter Side' started by Mrs Glockrunner, May 26, 2009.

  1. The Miniatur Wunderland model railroad in
Hamburg , Germany is the largest in the world,
with more than 10,000 train cars running around
its 6.8 miles of HO scale track. Now, the makers
of this huge layout have created a video that gives
you a look at the vast scope of this intricate work
    of art.

Its construction started in 2000, and is still

underway, with a tiny airport due for completion
by the end of this year.

That is a fantastic setup. Can you imagine the man hours that went in to building this. I don't even wan to think about the maintenance issues.
This makes my little puny 4 x 8 (in progress) set look sick
    Thanks for sharing.

That is simply awesome. My 3 year old grandson loves trains. He would just go wild seeing something like that.

The last I heard, the Train Mountain Model Railroad in Chiloquin OR is the worlds largest model railroad in the world. It is 7 1/2 inch guage, which allows people to ride the trains. They have 13 miles of main line track on 2,000 acres of property. Their total trackage is just over 25 miles, which includes yards, storage, and connector tracks. Train Mountain was in the Guiness Book of World records as "The longest MiniatureHobby Railroad". The last I heard, they were planning to add another 15 miles of main line track in the next two years.
