Milt Sparks Axiom Holster Review

Back in February I ordered two Axiom OWB holsters from Milt Sparks. I received them recently and have put them through some use and wanted to share on here my thoughts.

I have a good selection of IWB holsters already, but wanted to try a quality OWB solution for my 1911s for when concealment isn't the top priority or in winter months.

I ordered a 3" and 5" model, both in black cowhide with elephant trim. These holsters ride outside the waistband and are easily mounted or removed using the snap looks (not necessary to struggle and push your belt through the loops as you put it on).

Initial impressions, these are very very nice and extremely well made. They were very tight upon arrival, but I wrapped the guns in the plastic bag and let them sit for two nights and now they are just right. All Axiom holsters are made by Tony Kanaley himself, and his stamp was on both of these.
The guns fit just right, and drawing from the holster when mounted is smooth - it's still tight but getting better as I wear them more.

As for carrying them, these are easily the most comfortable holsters I have EVER tried. And... to boot on top of that, the 3" Axiom conceals my S&W Pro Series just as well as my VMII. Unless you're wearing a form fitting t shirt or something, honestly it's VERY concealable.
The 5" is very similar. VERY comfortable to wear and carry, and it is quite concealing as well. If you're carrying a 5" gun with a full Gov't grip frame, this is going to conceal probably 85-90% as well as an IWB for the same gun - if your clothing is any bit loose at all (for me this is usually the case when I carry).

In closing, these are a real home run for me. The comfort just blows me away... the only thing I would change is it may be nice to have a sweat shield, but oh well. Bottom line - if you carry a 1911 for a living or for defensive purposes, you owe it to yourself to try one of these.

    Enjoy some pictures!

  3. Very nice holsters. Thank you for the review.
  4. It looks like the belt-loops are on the wrong side!

Very nice, although I prefer a more pronounced sweat-shield.

Damn, I should have read the description of the holster better. I thought that the Axiom was an IWB type. Oh well, time to call up the Milt Sparks dudes up for an cordovan, of course.

Very nice, thanks for the review. I'm intrigued by these holsters.

Any chance of a pic, with gun, on person?
