Military Widow Pic Request

Discussion in 'US Army Forum' started by nolacop, Oct 8, 2007.

  1. Did any of ya'll happen to see the pic/video of the young widow who chose to sleep next to her husband's coffin the night before the burial? She chose to do so and the honor guard stayed with her throughout the night. She actually had a cot set up underneath his coffin. This pic/video was so powerful and I was to see it again so I may save it. Please help. Thanks.

Here's the original piece. The writer and photographer won (a well deserved) Pulitzer Prize for this.

Wow, all I can say is I am amazed. I am so proud that our Nation produces fine young Americans. That there is an outstanding woman. She truly loved her husband. I salute her and the memory of her husband. 2LT James J Cathey, Rest In Peace.

Not many women stand by their military husbands (because of the military lifestyle) but that there makes me want to shake her hand an thank her.

I had read that article earlier this year. More prayers sent for the Cathey family.

I spent a month on burial detail, while stationed at Camp Pendleton. It was a very emotionally draining experience, rendering final respects to Marines that had passed.

And I would not trade it for the world.

interesting that this sort of thing is one of the very few things that makes me optimistic about our country.

it may not be a 'country' when we're done, but the people here time to time make me very proud.

it would be a darn shame to let the tattered old flag hit the ground. it's had a lot of rent paid on it..

That one of her pressing her pregnant belly up against the casket was the roughest.

Every so often, I can not hold it back anymore, and I let it out. Seeing this, and reading the story... I let it go.

Sometimes, just a single tear, others, a deluge. This was the latter.
