Midlength Colts?

Discussion in 'Black Rifle Forum' started by TexasGlockster, Sep 17, 2012.

  1. Which, if any, of the Colts have mid length gas systems? Sorr for the noob question, I looked on their website but couldn't figure it out.

Im surprised that no one has sent a 6920 to Adco. They can relocate gas port and FSB. Recontour barrel and new gas tube for a couple hundred. Basically changing a 7" gas system to a midlength.

I'd be curious to see how they plug the gas port without totally screwing the barrel.

Too much trouble for too little return. The Carbine length system works. But the mid length works a little better.

I think the saying goes "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

6920 carbine length works better than fine. Works great.

As said the carbine system works. With a M16 style carrier and a heavier buffer you wouldn't be able to tell the difference shooting it or a midlength. You want more rail estate? Low profile gas block and longer rail system.

    Longer sight radius.

    Slightly softer shooting.

I wouldn't bother converting a carbine length but...

Like Mike said, heavier carrier, buffer, and shave the FSP then add a longer rail.

Adco posted in a thread over ar15 and said they could do it and surprisingly cheaper than i thought. The cool thing would be using the Colt barrel to do so. Im satisfied with my carbine gassed 6920 though.

I'd imagine they could tap, bolt, grind and then ream. Maybe even put a band over the outer end. ???

Call me crazy, but I was at my LGS saying how I wished Colt made a mid length. When the guy said yeah they do and handed one to me. I'll have to go back and check it out.

Either you're crazy, or the guy at the LGS was on some good crack. They do make rifle-length, but not mid-length.

You'd have a hard time doing it to a 6920 barrel, the M203 notch would be in the way.

    I don't see Colt ever making a mid-length barrel.

Their carbine gassed guns are fairly popular and seem to work.

I still think the mid-length is way over rated (and I have one).

I looked at the gas tube, it was mid length. They had $12xx on it and it had a rail of some sort and was a new Colt. I'll run up there tomorrow, it's driving me crazy now. It had the different stock Colt puts on them with the locking feature.
