He does know how to fly it, he's a pilot for Skywest.

Where would you want them to be? The airport was closed and the guy, who was a pilot on administrative leave, climbed over the perimeter fence with the aid of a rug and then broke into the plane. Did you even bother to read about this before spouting off?

So they were there, but were easily circumvented by a lone individual with mayhem on his mind?

    Yeah, good job TSA!

TSA is a big problem, but I don't see how they can be blamed for this.

I put a sarcastic smiley in there. I know they can't be there. I'm just crapping the TSA. If they want to feel so important and violate our rights they should be able to save us from everything possible.

Are they really that important when as NeverMore pointed out that everything was "easily circumvented by a lone individual with mayhem on his mind?"

edit: I will admit I was trying to get back to work, read it too fast, and missed the part that he was a Captain. At least he still didn't take off though.

Would have been bad news if he actually took off. Fighter jets to follow I'm sure.

    no kidding.

after 9/11, no hostages on board, he'd have eaten rounds from a cannon.

I lived in St George, UT for a few months, back in 2001. The old airport there was on the edge of a mesa, with a drop of several hundred feet, past the end of the runway. When you got to the end, you were flying, one way or the other. I have heard that they recently closed the old airport and opened a new one. Eric

Whoever left the keys in the aircraft needs to be fired.

I'm not really getting this. If murder-suicide is your objective - plug her, plug yourself; end of story.

If you're going to steal an airplane - don't just mess up a perfectly good jet - finish the deal. There's a long history of people stealing airplanes and selling them in Latin America. Fly the airplane to Mexico, sell it for pennies on the dollar and live comfortably on the beach somewhere in the Yucatan drinking Tecates, Dos Equis and Carta Blancas.

    While possible, unlikely.

He'd more than likely, have been where ever he was going before someone realized the plane was stolen.

    Yep new airport.

The plane had a 1500 mile range... Mexico? Costa Rica? Belize? Well, ok, Belize and Costa Rica are a little too far w/o refuel.. but no passengers or cargo... :whistling:

Tegucigalpa was the same way in reverse. You either landed or crashed into the hill before the runway. Either way, you were gonna be on the ground. Lol

You probably have the story right, just backwards. He probably started drinking Dos Equis, filed flight plan Yucatan, planned to sell it once in mehico. Drink and drive and these things happen...

I dont always steal & drive planes drunk, but when I do, I drink Dos XX... :O)
