I have a one month old G-19 Gen 4 with the correct spring and ejector. Bought brand new in the case from a very reputable, high volume dealer in Cleveland.

Shot once a couple of weeks ago, 125 or so rounds
no problems - cleaned and oiled per Glock.

Went to the range today and shot 125 or so rounds. Removed magazine and laid the pistol down at the end with the slide back.

It was a bit warm, so I went to pay and was carrying the pistol out with the slide back.

Went to the parking lot and my brother pulled the slide back and released in order to look at my new sights in the daylight.

I took the gun, racked the slide and the slide went forward 3 inches past where it should. I slid the slide off and a little flat spring fell out.

The plastic slide release was gone. Went back in and it was laying on the shelf in the range.

WTF ? Brand new gun and I never dropped it, abused it, nothing.

Plastic slide release? My slide release is metal. Post a photo if possible. The dealer should take care of it.

Any chance the slide lock was assembled backwards?

Look around 4:40 where there is an annotation that states that the ridge on the edge at the top points to the rear of the gun when installed.

I guess it is metal, my bad.

It's 1 1/8" long with a piece in the middle 1/2" long sticking down about 1/8"

The piece that sticks down has a little "ledge" that stick out the bottom.

My main concern is - Why? How can I trust it anymore? If I really need it and the slide falls out, that would be a bad thing.

I don't know how it was installed the gun never left my possession. When the sights were put on, I was right there watching him.

It's the slide release you move when you take slide off. Sorry, I'm not sure of the name of the part.

That little ledge should be at the TOP when installed and facing to the rear.

Assemble the gun properly and see how it works. Or, replace the stop and spring.

I think it's called a take down lever.

    Hi Richard,

It came brand new from the factory. What made the thing fall out? I'm not so sure I will trust this gun anymore. I've never read about anything like this happening. I don't want to be watching this part every time I shoot. Plus, what happens if it falls out between shots? Will I need to aim the slide at the bullseye?

    Say "Slide Lock" 100 times.:whistling:

The spring that applies tension to it is called a "Slide Lock Spring."

Thanks, I won't forget to call it a "Slide Lock". I need to say it a 100 times because I'm upset about it.
The "Slide Lock Spring" #19 looks like a "Z" , not an "L". I guess it got squished.

Hardly a "major failure." Bad spring, easy fix.

Scenario - Bad guy with a gun, you take one shot and then your slide falls out.

Would that be a minor failure to your wife and kids or a major failure ?

I understand it's an easy fix, but why did it happen in a brand new gun? If it was in wrong, it sure worked fine for a while.

This is the only time I've ever hear of this happening. If you don't trust the gun, sell it and buy something else.

That's probably good advice, although the G-19 has a generally good reputation.

I'm not unfamiliar with the possible consequences of a weapon that is suddenly unusable
    when you need it most.
