Which Mag Pouch is correct for use with USGI WW2/Korea/Nam M3 or M9 shoulder holsters or if answer is none then which one did guys use on their own ? (& how& where was it mounted )
No takers on the M3 or M9 holster ( for1911A1) and if a single or double mag pouch existed for use with such holster in WW2 or Korea or Nam ? Any historical pics or Manual graphics ??
If you were a Pilot (High altitude pant) (No Web belt) or a Navy small boat operator Shorts or pant with small belt loops & no usuial pistol belt & web gear ,just a shoulder holster ? My question is in reguards to USGI Rigs (M3 or M9) worn by folks with 1911A1 pistol who wanted to augment their one mag in firearm with one or two more while on duty or in action in WW2 or Korea OR Nam. Which pouch did they usuially choose or find/make & how was it attached to their rig ????
in my tanker unit we wore the shoulder rig and just slipped the regular belt pouch onto the chest strap to provide spare mags. We kept the shoulder holster when we transitioned to the m9 and slipped the nylon single mag pouch on the same chest strap. Many WW2/korea/vietnam pics show no mag pouches so maybe they were placed on a pants belt or just in a pocket? there are also pics of modified gi shoulder rigs with mag pouches sewn on the front of the holster body. There was never an official pouch or wat to wear it in association with the gi shoulder rig if that helps.
Found an Oxblood Leather double 1911 mag pouch (died black and dated 1948 with a larger than the date & mfgr letterings & numbers USGI type US stamped on back) and it appears to be Military contract and it has the WW2/korea type brass snap closing flap but I'm concerned that it might be for the .38 cal. mags as my 1911 fit very tight or is it just in need of having mags inserted to stretch it out (Do .38 cal mag pouches even accept .45acp 1911 mags ???????
