M1S90/ What choke for slugs?

Discussion in 'Tactical Shotguns' started by schild, Jul 10, 2010.

  1. Despite having my Benelli for 10 years I've never shot slugs. What choke for slugs and are there any reduced recoil slugs that you've had good results with in your Benelli? Thanks.

If your choices are the standard - full, modified & improved cylinder chokes.

I would pick improved cylinder for slugs - or at least start there.

    Think about it this way.

The reason you use a choke is to force the SHOT into a tighter pattern VS an open cylinder.

A slug is one big chunk of lead - no reason or need to try and improve its pattern - it is possible you could get better accuracy with a modified choke -maybe test that one also - you can even buy a special rifled choke just for slugs.
