Title says it all. Laptop will be used mostly for miscellaneous stuff - university, maybe some coding eventually, multimedia (limited to music and DVDs, not much beyond that), random other stuff. No preferences on anything else, other than that my priorities are on weight, size, and battery life. Will be transported often, mostly to-and-from class, and around the house.

Celerons, 4,200rpm drives, and 256mb RAM systems need not apply if at all possible.

I have this desktop system to use for anything more demanding, so no worries there.

Anyone have any suggestions on getting great deals here?

I would look for a refurbished Dell. Same warranty several hundred dollars cheaper.

Not sure what's your definition of "a Lot of Money". In August, I bought a NIB (not display) Gateway notebook, Pentium Centrino 1.6, 80 gig HD, DVD Burner, 1 gig of memory, internal wireless network card, Win XP Pro for $647 less $200 mail in rebate for a grand whopping total of $447.00 plus tax. I got it from Office Depot, of all places. Oh BTW, original price was $1260. You just have to look around - great deals are out there.

Gateway 4542GP, weighs 5.5 lbs. Not sure if they're still making this model.
