Lookin to thin the herd. . .

Discussion in 'General Firearms Forum' started by SickShot, Feb 21, 2012.

  1. Lookin to buy some different guns, sooooo was thinking of selling a couple. Here's what I got tell me what think I should sell or keep and if you are so inclined WHY???

    Glocks Gen 4 17,19 and 26
    FN Five-Seven
    Body Guard .380

    I'd keep the G17 and G26....sell the G19.

Why? Because the G19 is a compromise between the G17 and G26. You get to keep the best of both worlds by selling the G19.

  3. If it were me I'd sell all of em except for the Bodyguard and buy a fullsize and compact M&P in 9mm, and an AR15 plus ammo/optic.

IMO, cut loose the 17 & 26. The 19 is the "Goldilocks" of the trio.

If you carry the 26, keep it. If not, get rid of it and the 17 as well. The 19 is all you need in that case.

Which ones do you use/carry the least? For me I would sell the G19 as I suspect the G17 and especially G26 could suit me fine. The FN is a fine gun but what is it's purpose?
  9. The FN is a fun shooter but never carried it.

I carry the 26 most everyday then the BG .380, I hardly ever carry the 19, and the 17 with a glock light and an extra mag is under the bed in a gunvault for HD.

Maybe the 19 and the FN is getting voted off the island?

I have a Delton AR on the way

If it were me I'd keep the FN FiveseveN and the G19 and sell the S&W 380 and the G17 and 26.

I'd get rid of the FN and bodyguard.

The way things are going the FN FiveseveN would be a great investment gun to keep if nothing else. Prices have gone up at a steady rate since the gun came out. I'd hang onto it.
If you feel that you'd carry the G26 more then you would the G19 then I'd keep it and the G17(for Home Defense) and dump the S&W Bodyguard 380 and the G19 then.
  14. TN Frank,
I seem to remeber the FN was around $700 around 2007?

    Does that seem right?

On Gunbroker they're going for btwn 1000-1200.

Yep, you could pick up one for around $700-$750. Now they're well over $1000 and if they have extra mags and ammo I've seen em' go for as much as $1600.
I'd for sure hang onto it, the price can only go up.

TBH, I would get rid of everything but the 26, but that's just my taste. A 26 can do for me everything that a 19 and 17 can do, and more. I have no real practical use for a five seven. The bodyguard 380 might be ok to keep as well. I'd probably rather have a small J frame in 38, but that's just me.

You would be left with a glock 26 and roughly $2000+ if you sold these guns privately. That $2000 could make for a collection that I personally would probably be much happier with. You could pick up a beretta 92, a pretty nice 1911, and a J frame. Maybe even an inexpensive 12 gauge?

That sounds like a plan. I was going to say you need a

    1) Deep concealment pocket gun.

    2) A CCW gun, when you want something more that a pocket gun

    3) A Home defense pistol

The S&W Bodyguard is a no brainer, and honestly you would not get too buch in trade for it anyway.

You could have a the G26 or the G19 do double duty and a carry gun and a home defense gun, but I like how you did it there. The G17 is ready to go in a gun vault and you carry gun can be backup.

You are not using the G19 so that makes sense, and the only thing I would throw out there is do you want to switch out the G17 with the FN 5.7 as a home defense gun since you seem to enjoy shooting it at the range.
  18. My FN has three 20 round-mags, a Comptac padle holster, a Compatac single mag holder and 300 rounds of ss197 and the hollow points.

    I'd ask $1500,

o yeah did I mention I'm in MASS. . .probably could fetch $2000.

  19. Bilbo,
    Thank you for your input.
I'd rather keep the G17 and the reasons are purely subjective:

First, I trust my abilties with the 17 more.

Second, not sure about the 5.7 round for SD/HD.

Three, I like to try to keep the same calibers around.

The .380 is good deep conceal pocket gun, that I run with pdx1 ammo.

Plus I have an AR on the way, so I feel that negates the need for the 5.7.

IF it were me and I really wanted to thin the heard I'd keep the G26 and the FN FiveseveN(for home defense) and sell all the rest but I would NOT get rid of the FN. I can see the prices on these going North of the $2000 dollar range if Obama gets reelected.
Keep back some of your G19 and G17 mags for the G26 for back up HD use and I think you'd be good to go with those two handguns. Keep the G26 and FN, sell the rest.

You do know you can get uppers for the AR in 5.7, right? That'd make a sweet pair right there.
