What is your longest build time for an AR project from 1st part purchased to final part put on?

I am interested in actual "determined to finish" build time, not so much ones that were stuck in the back of the safe and forgotten about only to be found and finished much latter. :embarassed:

It seems I have no patience at all and although I promised myself I would not rush thru this current build I am finding it very hard not to just buy everything now to finish it  In fact I am already looking at a new upper and still need a lower for the last upper I purchased. :dunno:

    My current "project" is going along fairly well so far;

    PSA 16 Midlength
    Magpul MOE Handguards
    BCM Carry Handle
    BCM Bolt Carrier Group
    BCM Extended (Medium) Charging Handle

So I am totally "bottomless" at this point

And now PSA has 18" upper instock.......:whistling:

To answer my own question I guess it would be right at 4 months gathering parts. How long was yours? Teach me some patience thru your examples !

10 months from purchase of lower to when I got off my butt and filed the paperwork, then getting it back, and finally getting an upper and completing assembly.

Considering my tax stamp only took 59 days door-to-door, most of that time was me being lazy and not doing the freakin' paperwork.

That sounds like "me kinda" of lazy

I planned to finish this AR by buying part by part with spare money until done but the temptation is too great I tell you....heck as I type this the Primary Arms banner is just above this text box, they are located about 45 mins from me and I have the next 3 days off......how am I suppose to not go buy stuff :crying:

The last one I built took nearly a year--I kept on running out of cash---the fridge went down--then the garage door opener---then the washer and dryer---then the comptuer monitor----you get the picture.

Could have been sooner --but didn't want to cheap out and have an AR that I wouldn't like.

4 years for an AR15 and 8 years for a Remington 870. The 870 was an old police trade in that I put together and just now finished up with a Cerakote finish.

Bought my first Noveske in 2008 & I thought I was done.

Then I added suppressor, EOTech, swapped EOTech for Aimpoint, added Surefire taclight, then I added a new grip, then I changed it up a bit and added a Vltor stubby grip, then I decided I wanted a LaRue mount for it, then I sent it back to Noveske for a QD mount and a new AAC Breakout mount, now I'm thinking I might be done with it. But who the heck knows.

Basically when you get the Black Rifle disease you're never done.

    Year and a half.

The point of this build was to withstand full auto waist of the slide fire ssar-15 stock and corrosive ammo of 5.45. Finally gonna call it finished even though I cheaped out on the sights just to call it done.

What took me soo long?..... I could not decide on building gas or piston.
I Finally decided piston driven for 5.45. I choose correct!

She turned out pretty nice for a Frankenstein.:embarassed:

    Doublestar lower
    Wolff Springs
    Slide Fire SSAR-15 stock
    Adams Arms Melonite Piston Upper
Melonited Flash hider, barrel, bolt and carrier
    MOE flip sights
    Sight Mark pro red dot

She is ugly but runs flawless

Pretty easy to control if you keep it under 4 round bursts!

Sweet rifle...looks of those stocks are growing on me. I fired a guys slide stock at the pit in Lapeer a couple of weeks ago and it does put a big grin on your face and everyone wants to check out the automatic AR...lol

  11. ordered my stripped lower in September and have everything except for the bolt carrier group and charging handle. So is it still a project or is it complete??
