A good thing since it sounds like the legislature wants to stop the ban on humanoid type targets on 2 state owned ranges.

Why doesn't TX have a state owned range?

We use to have black humanoid targets to qualify. I think someone sued another agency and now they are a light green. If the martians at area 51 ever find out, they will be pissed!

The range down the road from my house will not allow them either, it's a Private range and I will never go there.

The member-owned range I shoot at has a similarly ridiculous PC policy; humanoid targets are prohibited on the public areas of the range, but can be used in the members-only bays.

My range encourages the use of targets that look like actual bad-guys.

"Representatives with DWR explained that the ranges' primary purposes are to promote hunter safety and that human form targets are not used in those courses as they felt the targets would be counterproductive to the course. "

These Shooting Ranges are evidently in place to train shooters to kill animals, not practice shooting.

So the purpose of the Public financed shooting Ranges is to get people to shoot animals or "X's" or "O's", but not practice to protect themselves?

Odd the State should force you to shoot at what the state deem is "acceptable".

I suppose cops practice with Deer/Elk 'Hostage' targets.

Time to design some primate shaped targets, maybe a sasquatch one too.

If they justify their range only for it's use in hunter safety, which itself is sold as a way to reduce hunters accidentally shooting people; then having human targets does not make sense within that paradigm.

Too bad they don't acknowledge that shooting ranges have purposes other than hunter safety.

If you showed up with other primate inspired targets, how long until somebody complains that a chimpanzee target really has some other meaning.

I loved shooting a "bad guy" target with ski mask and mac 10 and everything, on my birthday. Rented an mp5 and shredded it, Fun stuff. At my range i usually use bullseyes, because there cheap and they dont sell humanoid shapes.

If anyone wants a good laugh re a very similar story, pm me for link (nsfw).

I never use body targets for sighting in a rifle. Aim small hit small
That said, enough with the PC already. How far can it stretch.

Oh! I thought he meant real humans. I was about to agree with him that it probably shouldn't be allowed.
