I just contacted my Wash State Senator and Representative to voice my opposition to HB 1588

I was just informed by both of my State Representative that Legislative polls favors gun control House Bill 1588, by 3 to 1 in favor of gun control measures. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

House Bill 1588 was heard by the House Judiciary Committee yesterday. The bill was sponsored by state Representatives Jamie Pederson(D-43), Mike Hope (R-44).<o:p></o:p>

HB 1588 is scheduled for vote in the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, February 19 at 10:00 a.m.<o:p></o:p>

Also heard yesterday (2-14-13) was House Bill 1676, sponsored by state Representative Ruth Kagi (D-32) and thirteen other state representatives. This so-called “child access prevention” bill would single outthe storage of firearms for criminalization under certain circumstances.<o:p></o:p>

The latest attack on law-abiding gun owners comes in the form of a ban on so-called “assault weapons” and magazines that hold more thanten rounds. Senate Bill 5737, just introduced by state Senators Ed Murray (D-43) and Jeanne Kohl-Welles (D-36), would ban the sale of commonly owned semi-automatic firearms. This bill would ban the manufacture, transfer, possession, purchase and sale of firearms arbitrarily defined as “assault weapons”, semi-automatic firearms commonly owned by law-abiding citizens for self-defense, based on mainly cosmetic features!<o:p></o:p>

SB 5737 would also ban the possession of any semiautomatic firearm along with a magazine that holds more than ten rounds. A violation of these, and other provisions listed in the bill, is a class C felony. Owners of these firearms could keep them IF they subjected themselves to annual in-home inspections by law enforcement and complied with stringent and impractical storage and transportation requirements.<o:p></o:p>

Looking at how few people have even bothered to look at this thread, and none have even taken a little time to comment and keep this thread active, makes me fear the worst.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

The legislators are going to feel free to vote for more gun control and justify their vote by citing internal legislative tabulations, of :dunno:contact by their constituents, evidencing that public opinion supports gun control at a ratio of 3 to 1 in favor of gun control.<o:p></o:p>

I am getting old and I am beginning to feel that I no longer give a damn. If the younger generations do not care if they lose their rights and will not even take a few minutes to contact their legislators and voice their opposition, then they deserve what they get. I no longer care to fight for them or donate my time and money (I have donated over $1000 since January1, 2013, to fight the gun grabbers). What happens will only affect me for a little while, but what happens will affect the younger generation for a very long time. I say, to hell with it.<o:p></o:p>

I sometimes feel the same as you. I'm old.... and tired. But I just can't quit. I have grand-children's rights to fight for.

The reason it hasn't gotten many views is because people are tired of reading the same crap and not knowing what to do about it. Not that your post is crap but the gun control crap is crap.

    I can give them suggestions;

1- Contact the Legislators that represent their districts, State and Federal and voice opposition to more gun control. And do that every few weeks.

2- Join the NRA, so that the NRA can claim that it represents X number of members and that NRA membership is growing.

3- Donate at least $10 to the NRA, so the NRA can help fight the battle.

3- Try and convince as many people as possible to do #1 #2 & #3

I was deeply affected when I read parts of that thread on how worthless and contemptible the baby boomers are and figured out that the younger generations just wants to get rid of my generation, the sooner the better. I was unaware that such hostility existed. I came away from that figuring, to hell with all of them and they deserve what they get.<o:p></o:p>

To say that I am demotivated to help the younger generations, in anyway whatsoever, is an understatement. Because of habit, sometimes I still try, but it is less and less with each passing day. If they are so hostile, exhibit, and express such pure hatred towards my generation, why should I do anything to help them? Piss on them.<o:p></o:p>

Heretofore, I have been donating serious money, thousands and thousands of dollars to politicians and causes to help the younger generations. Other than donating to Second Amendment causes and organizations, (I am financially independent) none of what I have been supporting will benefit me personally. I will do just fine, no matter what. However, after reading and understanding the contempt and hatred, coupled with the indifference and slothful attitudes, as I feel today, I will burn my money before I use it to help the younger generations.<o:p></o:p>

Yes there are some young people that want us gone. There ares just as many that don't. Like most conservatives you don't hear much from them. We hear a lot from the loud mouth liberal minority. There are some very good young people right there on GT and they are smarter than many give them credit for. I meet good young people at the range all the time. There is hope.

I will try to maintain optimism. I want things to be better for the generations that follow. I have to remember that it is just a few jerks that are the problem and it is those jerks that make the most noise.<o:p></o:p>

Thank you for your words of encouragement, I needed them because every timeI turn around I read or hear of the politicians and the media trying their damnedest to ruin this country.<o:p></o:p>

    RJ,
If I lived in your state I would let them know of my opposition. I think the main problem & alot of the gun owners young & old nationwide think someone else will speak for them so they do not need to act or respond when we are all needed. Look at the numbers for the NRA. If half of gun owners would join it would put more fear in our elected officials to rethink these extreme bans they are trying to pass.

You are right, and if the people do not "see the light" soon, our second amendment rights will be lost.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

The gun grabbers are emboldened. I have never seen such an anti-gun fervor as is going on now. Never have I seen such a threat to our Second Amendments rights and the vast majority of people are sitting back thinking and expecting someone else to fight for them. Those people are in for “a rude awakening.”

As I have stated before, I am old and the anti-gun policies will only affect me for a relatively little while, but the anti-gun policies will affect the younger generations for a very long time, probably forever. I will have a clear conscious, as I have tried.

Rest Easy, RJ - The Supreme Court has made its ruling in several court cases. Guns aren't going anywhere.

And, I welcome these so-called assault weapons bans. We're gonna take these bans right up to the Supreme Court and get them thrown out. We still have 5 "originalists" on the Supreme Court, so they'll do the due diligence, research our Founders and their intent of the 2nd Amendment, and rule in our favor.

And, while we're in front of SCOTUS, we might as well go after after FDR's 1932 ban of fully automatics as well - that has never been challenged and it's about time the Court ruled on it as well.

These rulings are the ONLY way to get these communists and socialists to back off.

I have, many times over. It's frustrating because here in WA the liberals on the west side of the state, namely Bellevue & Seattle, have population on their side. I hunted with a guy for years that refuses to become involved in 2A issues.... as long as his bolt gun isn't affected, well, all is good. So yes, there is apathy amongst gun owners but thank goodness a lot of us still stand up for our rights & aren't intimidated by the 'Coasties' on the left side of our state.

I had the same thought. I keep remembering what Chief Justice Roberts did on Obamacare, screwed us royal. I do not trust the Supreme Court. To tell you the truth, I have had too much experience with the Court system to put much faith in any Judge or panel of Judges, to defend and protect our Second Amendment rights.

    As an example, received this morning;

    Dear Mr. xxxxxx

I appreciate you taking the time to write about your concerns regarding gun rights in this state and House Bill 1588, which would require universal background checks. Following the tragic events at Newtown, Connecticut and the long list of killings prior to that, I strongly believe we must do more in this country to protect our children and society as a whole. We cannot continue postponing this issue, and I hope to see substantial reforms during this legislative session.

I have received many e-mails and phone calls from constituents on both sides of House Bill 1588, and I greatly appreciate hearing your opinion. But after much consideration, I have come to the conclusion that we should require background checks for anyone purchasing a gun and eliminate the gun show loophole, because it will help our state become an even safer place to live.

Thank you again for your e-mail. I hope you will continue to let me know your concerns, so that I can better represent you.

    Sincerely,

    Representative Gael Tarleton

Translation... I'm a DemoRATT = SOCIALIST. All the Constitution is to me is a piece of old paper not worth worrying about. You rights don't concern me. I believe no tragedy should be wasted when it can be used to forward the (socialist) "Parties" agenda. I see an excellent opportunity to implement laws that can be used to disarm many law abiding citizens and or make criminals of them. Voy vill coform ifff I half anything to do wift it.

    Have a nice day Comrade

You are absolutely right and they are going to trample all over our rights and there is little, if anything, that we can do about it, because they have the power and they know it. People piss and moan about it, but only a few will even take the little bit of time to call or email their legislators and express their opposition. <o:p></o:p>

The Washington State House of Representatives passed HB 1588 out of committee and it is on the way to a full vote before the House, where it is expected to pass both legislatures and the ultra-liberal Governor will sign it into law.

My representative was one of the co-sponsors, I will vote against him and donate to his opponent, but he will win re-election (and he knows it), because I live in an ultra-liberal district where I am surrounded by Microsoft, Amazon, etc., executives, that have their heads up their asses so far that they will never see the light of day. I am like a fish out of water, or more accurately stated, a pariah. <o:p></o:p>

My parents are old and in bad health, and when they areg one, I am getting out of here. There are a few places left in this country, that have a few more years, before they also turn to crap, but the handwriting is on the wall, this whole country is going to go to hell, of that I am certain. I am just glad that I am old.<o:p></o:p>
