With all the budget problems this state faces, this will be a few less things the state police will have to worry about and provide the funding for personnel.

This will take 15 minutes at most, 5 minutes if you only contact a couple.

No one else is going to do it for you. Don't be lazy.

Is anyone interested in attending the committee meeting?

State Representative Paul Opsommer (R-93) has introduced legislation that seeks to repeal the required "safety inspection" for newly obtained handguns. House Bill 4490 would also require law enforcement agencies to destroy safety inspection records on file. Current Michigan law requires anyone who comes into possession of a pistol to take it to the police or sheriff’s department for a safety inspection. The requirement of a safety inspection is a burdensome waste of time for law-abiding gun owners and HB4490 will end that inconvenience.

HB4490 is expected to receive a hearing in the House Committee on Tourism, Outdoor Recreation, and Natural Resources soon. Please contact the members of the Committee and respectfully urge them to support passage of HB4490.

I used to live in MI. It won't effect me much but I think it's great someone is trying to get rid of that silly 'safety inspection' requirement.

I wrote all of those guys around 1:30 this morning. Got a few answers back stating that they are leaning towards supporting this bill.

Michiganders: Please, write these guys and let them know you want this BS "safety inspection" crap to stop.

Thanks for your email. After hearing testimony on House Bill 4490 this morning in the House Committee on Tourism, Outdoor Recreation and Natural Resources, I am leaning in support of the legislation. However, the Chair of the committee did not move to vote on it today. It is likely the bill will be scheduled for another hearing in the near future in order to vote, and I will keep your support for it in mind. Thanks again for writing.

    Sincerely,

    Kenneth B. Horn
