This may not be the place to post this but I'll let the Mod's decide. For sometime now I've listened to our new Governor explain how broke we as a state are. College tuition will be significantly increased. Many government funded programs will be scaled back or cut. Money that was slated to refurb and upgrade state parks is now diverted to the Lexington Horse Park in anticipation of the FEI World Equestrian Games. That's not all. Today I read about road projects around Lexington including an upgrade of Bluegrass field the completion of which will coincide with the 2010 equestrian games. Listening to talk radio we learn that Kentuckians are against raising the cigarette tax because it targets relatively few to benefit the many... yet the Equestrian games appear to me to be a tax on the many to benefit the few!! In fact all this money will be spent sprucing up Lexington with international traffic signs, outdoor stadiums (plural) and several new 4 & 5 star hotels all for an event that will last 16 days!!! This to me is outrageous and I contend it is but phase one of the ground breaking for casino's. Now I've got nothing against casino's but I hate being backdoored. It seems too convenient to have all this new infrastructure sitting around unused. Replace the horses with slots makes sense to me and probably to the good Gov too. It's just not the time for this. If we're broke we shouldn't be hosting this event to this extent. Look, if I had scheduled a party but then lost my job, I wouldn't worry about getting enough shrimp!!! Hell I'd be stretching a buck to keep the lights on!!!???
